^ After you click on Upload Firmware, the following window should appear:

When you click on the up/down arrows to the right of the listed 7.5.2 in the Upload Version section, you will see different options and you should be able to choose 7.5.1. Once you do so and click ok, your airport express/time capsule will take a few minutes to reset and you should be able to access your home Wi-Fi network on your iPhone (after you insert the appropriate password on your iPhone) once the router resets.

I hope that this helps.

I just got an iPhone 4 from my employer and had some trouble to get it to work with my home network like many other in this thread. I just gave up to start with. Then my daugther started to complain about the same issue with her 16GS so I took a new look at it.

After trying around many different settings I finally found out that both our iPhones refuses to work with either this new WPA2-PSK protocoll or the TKIP encryption. After switching to WPA-PSK and AES encryption our iPhones started to connect properly. Se screenshot below.

I spent about two hours trying to resolve this problem and Apple support was great in helping me. I no longer have this issue and the fix was actually quite simple.

I have an Airport Extreme router. If you goto Airport Utility and select "Manual Setup" you should see a view of all the settings for your router. Across the top there will be tab buttons you can select. Chose the one called "Wireless" around the middle of this section there is an item named "Radio Channel Selection." If you have the option chose "Manual" and click the "Edit" button below.

Change your channel selection from "Automatic" to "Manual" and use channel 3 or try 7. This will require that you reboot your router and when it comes up you shouldn't have any more connection issues with your iPhone 4S. If you do, I am so sorry and would advise you to give Apple Support a try. FYI, I am not using the router at the 5GHZ level so I didn't need to adjust anything on the configuration.

I have been working with this issue for about 30 days. I have gone into my local Apple Store and they could get it to work. I was told that it was a problem with my ISP. I called my ISP and they told me is was a problem with my Apple Router. Well all in all I learned some new things and my router is now working and my phone connects. I am very thankful. Blessings to you all and have a wonderful Christmas.

Your instructions are absolutely awesome! My boyfriend and I both have the iphone 4s and we have had difficulty detecting our home network before I read your post today. Verizon couldn't help and Apple is closed for the Holiday observance and i decided to check out the forums here. I'm so glad that I did. I bought my airport extreme over 3 years ago. There were minimal differences with the screenshot that you provided, but I decided to post my shot for others that have my airport or an older version.

Good luck everyone!

Well, I wish that would work for me, but nope. First, I ONLY have N option on my Airport Express and second, I'm not even using Apple hardware on my home network (Linksys E4200).

I've tried every suggestion thus far and nothing works. I can SOMETIMES connect on each network but never reliably or for very long. Again, My iPad, MacBook Pro and my iPhone 3GS ALL work ALL THE TIME! on both networks. This tells me that there is a hardware/software issue specific to the new 4S (and probably the 4, since my co-workers can't connect reliably using their iPhone 4s but iPhone 3GSs all work fine).

BTW, why would Apple Airport need to be forced into a slower mode to work with an Apple iPhone? I love Apple hardware/software and UI too, but like all truly complicated stuff, they don't always get it right.

Waiting for a solution...

You need to access your router from your computer and either turn off the MAC filtering or simply choose your iphone's wifi address (located in settings, About on your iphone) on the list of trusted wifi stations on your router. This may come under 'wireless station access list' on your router or something along those lines and there we are. Done.

Prunier,

Is this the setting that you are referring to on Airport? This is how mine has been set by default and I still can't access the network. If it's not, can you please point me to the right setting?

Also, can you please show where I would enter the phone wifi address in Airport as I can't find where this would be added.

You might have the same problem as iphone users after the upgrade to iOS 4.3.3.

The iOS 4.3.2 and 4.3.3 for iphone is not compatible with the firmware 7.5.2 for apple airport extreme and time capsule. If your WiFi router is an apple airport with the newest firmware 7.5.2 an iphone with the iOS 4.3.1 connects without problems but after the firmware undate to 4.3.2 or 4.3.3 it will not be able to detect and connect to the WiFi network.

Solution Because the iphone firmware can not be downgraded, the airport firmware has to be downgraded

1) Make sure that the settings of your Airport Extreme are in mixed a/b/n mode

2) Open Airport Utility

3) Select Upload Firmware from the BaseStation menu

4) If you current version is 7.5.2, click Upload Firmware

5) Select 7.5.1 from the pop up menu

6) Restore Firmware

Now the WiFi network is detected and connected as before upgrading the iphone to 4.3.3.

Same here:

- iPhone 4 (version 4.3.4, MC603B) does not connect

- iPhone 3G (4.2.1) connects

- iPhone 2 (3.1.3) connects

- lots of computers with different OSs can connect

Kr@zy's workaround does not resolve my issue.

Restoring the iPhone 4 did not help either.

This, however, did work: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2492120?start=15&tstart=0

(Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings)

I found a solution (in another thread on this board) for those of us that use Apple Airport Extreme/Time Capsule as wireless routers. Here is the link: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3044578?start=15&tstart=0

Here are the steps (thanks to AndiXXX, et al., for posting this solution):

"1) Make sure that the settings of your Airport Extreme are in mixed a/b/n mode

2) Open Airport Utility

3) Select Upload Firmware from the BaseStation menu (my edit: Base Station is one of the drop down menu choices. Click on it and then click on "Upload Firmware")

4) If you current version is 7.5.2, click Upload Firmware

5) Select 7.5.1 from the pop up menu

6) Restore Firmware

Now the WiFi network is detected and connected perfectly as before upgrading the iphone to 4.3.3."

This worked instantly for me and my iPhone 4 (iOS 4.3.5) hasn't lost the Wi-Fi connection since. I hope that Apple corrects this rather unfortunate bug; as others have pointed out in the other threads on this topic, a solution that requires one to downgrade the version of their wireless router is counterintuitive. 😕

I have been following this thread since my original post... I found another thread with more in-depth analysis of the problems everyone seems to be describing: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2780119&tstart=0

To sum it up for those that don't want to read through: there is a requirement to enable WMM in your router (Linksys: Applications & Gaming>QoS>WMM: Enabled) in order for the phone to be comliant with 802.11n

Also, other users noted that disabling the CTS (Linksys: Wireless Settings > Advnaced Wireless Settings> CTS: Disabled) will also help your iDevice stay connected to the internet without short drop outs.

Hope this helps! Seems to be working for me so far.

And ignore the ungrateful douchebags in here.

Nice.

I think you should review the difference between ungrateful and unresolved. From what I've seen, everyone here who has had this issue resolved has been quite greatful and appreciative. Those that have not found resolution have appreciated the efforts in a polite (unlike you) manner.

Unplugging the Linksys router for a few minutes did the trick for me. I tried all the other tips first. One caution - you have to unplug and let it sit for at least 2 minutes to let all the juice drain out of the capacitors in order to give this fix an honest chance to work

Thanks Greg! This was a very frustrating problem.🙂

Note: Tried to post this as a reply to GregT8's helpful advice on the 1st page of this subject. Not sure how it wound up on page 35 :-? but I am reposting Greg's message below, for posterity:

Not possible to rollback. Since it sounds like most of you are not having troubles anywhere but on your home network, this leads me to believe that the home network is at fault. I would first try resetting the router, by unplugging it for a bit, and then plugging it back in. If this does not resolve the issue, I would log into my routers configuration and make sure everything looks to be in order. One thing you might try in the router configuration is changing the channel frequency in which it is operating on. As an example, if it is operating on channel 6, I would try changing it to channel 11. The reason this may help, is because it is possible that other wireless devices in your home ( for example a wireless telephone ) that are operating on the same frequency may be causing interference.

I have tried everything:

  • Forget the network
  • Restart the router
  • Restart the iphones & ipods
  • Removed all security - to see if that was an issue
  • Checked that it's not on 'n' only

And NOTHING works - it either can't pick up the network, or if it does it says 'Can not join network' or it loses it a couple of seconds after connecting.

I have a brand new Apple Airport Extreme and 2 apple Airport Expresses, which worked perfectly for the first 4 weeks that I had them and every device connected. Only in the last 2 weeks have the iPods and iPhones stopped workeing.

One would have thought that having all apple equipment would make things easy????

Does anyone have any ideas what the issue could be please? Anyone from apple who might like to shed some light on this???? PLEASE!
