Can Not upload files from iPad to Content management sites?

still you can not Uploading files on the IPad to CM sites... because "Choose file" is grayed out in Moodle or any other web based content management site I use. If it's absolutely not possible I need to be going another route. No file systems means this iPad can't do simple web based tasks. Please no post on how to attach to iPad apps. I need to upload or attach files on my iPad to a web based email account or to a content management site. After a year of waiting for apple to make this more than a content viewing tool im finally getting ready to move on.

Hi Chris,

If the software is designed that way then it is an inefficient design, they are not able to consider even after selling iPad for years. This is a very basic need of an end user. In day to day life, it is very normal scenarios to upload files and resumes to job sites. If apple did not consider this basic needs of an end user in their design then it is a shame. Seriously, apple should consider this.

I agree. Further it's not that unintuitive to see how one might need to use the iPad for this purpose.

I was able to use iCab briefly to upload to both a Drupal Gallery site and my School's Moodle site but

then that capability was lost in iso 5 upgrade. Apple's sand boxing iso is the reason, limiting severely

this capability, limiting usability. Only way around it as far as I can see is to jail break the device.

BTW, I just bought my daughter a Nexus 7 to see if I could manage these web sites and guess what?

No problem works beautifully for the task of managing uploading to forms, etc. for $200. Apple seem

has become more interested in the consumer crowd than helping people who still work.

Before you write in regards to this statement please read the entire thread. This is not about uploading

To email or dropbox - its about the simple task of uploading a file such as your resume to a web form! Freaking

iPad will not allow this!

And what exactly did you upload? Did you use iCab to upload a .jpeg or .pdf to a web based form? In other words did you go to a site using iCab, such as a Moodle or blackboard or Drupal site, not specially designed for IPad but a general site for all browsers, and upload a file to a form...I..e.

Example of menu

Select Image (from the device)

<image.jpeg> Upload now

Above would be a typical sequence .

If you did this please be helpful and describe ..better to give us a link to the site you are supposedly uploading these file to with iPad?

BTW -- to say you can use your iPad to upload a file to DropBox is asinine! It's a freakn app for that purpose. Presumably there is a link between one app like a word processor on the iPad directly to Dropbox. This is programmed in agreement with Dropbox.

Ok but will it upload to any such site without prior agreement..or at least a programmed menu that allows the user to selected from a predetermined list. No it will not.

The point here is that you can access any web site and use the site if you are on a computer if the site is a standard html site! The huge problem with iPad is it will not work with sites that use upload forms unless the site is written directly to work with iPad. Even then you need another app beyond your browser to access the capabilities of the website. Of course you can download anything anywhere. So you can consume but you can not upload files.. Create something.

I routinely use iCab to upload images to this forum, as well as to Upload documents to SharePoint (Moss 2007, but it would no doubt work on 2010 as well). While i couldn't guarantee it wpuld work with all site, if it works on SahrePoint, it should work on most. The only caveat is that the files need to be in iCab's Downloads folders, but easy enough to accomplish.

For images, it will pull from the iCab downloads folder, as well as the Photo app, directly from the camera, or from a web URL.

BTW: I didn't mention DropBox, I am aware there is an app for DropBox, and use it frequently. Had nothing to do with my post.

Are you using an uploader app for sharepoint? This Microsoft service clearly is optimized to work with mobile devices if it works, perhaps in tandem with an iPad app. As for your iCab comment, either you are uploading to a similarly optimized site written for the iPad or you are using an older version of the iOS or you' re blowing smoke.

Put a link in to the supposed sites you use and exactly how what you are uploading.. Doc PDFs images?

I have tried the iCab -upload from the download folder. It's an extra step but you would first need to upload your file to Dropbox or iDisk google drive etc, then downloaded it back to iCab. Wow, that's efficient!

However I get the same exact result each time for every site. I have emailed the programmer of iCab and he was unable to provide a fix and admitted Apple's sand-boxing was limiting the browsers capabilities.

Really -talk is cheap and arguing about this is a waste of time. You seem to be saying its no big deal yet you provide no help to people who need a fix. As far as I'm concern you are no better that those who say with passion " you can upload files to Dropbox off your iPad!"
