Are they refurbished or they are brand new?

Hmm I hope they don't try and give me a refurbished, I didn't buy a refurbished why should I accept a refurb.
But it's a defect, which is not my fault it's there manufacturing proccess.
So they should rectify the problem by replacing with new ones.
Well for my case.. I got the brown box unit. And it still has dead pixel and horizontal lines flicker when the iPad is closed and wake up quickly, any of you have this problem?
That model you received obviously was not much of a refurb if they missed dead plixels.
It needs returning again.
This is why I don't agree with refurbs.
Unless they give you a refurb which is still shoddy and has dead pixels. That's wrong in my opinion.
I would of just thought Apple with it's higher standards would sort this better.

Yes, but your unit is no longer new. They'd be replacing a used unit with another used unit.

Thanks for reply. So would you return your 1 month old brand new ipad2 with two dead pixels for a refurbish then?
Thanks
Depends on where the dead pixels are located and how much they bother me. Personally, I would have no qualms about receiving a refurb unit.
Per the written warranty, an exchange under warranty will be new or refurbished with no way to tell the difference.
An exchange under warranty is called a service unit, which is provided in a plain box with the iPad only regardless if new or refurbished since the iPad needs to be exchanged only, not everything included in the retail sales box.

Hopefully you're close to an Apple Store. If so, make a Genius appointment and discuss the issue with him/her. Possibly they can swap while you're there and check the replacement before you leave.

I understand why they use a plain box, however it should be a new unit in the box.
If I was giving a refurb it would be to people who have caused the problem themselves.
However, that's not the way that it is.
It doesn't matter what you think an exchange under warranty should be.

What?
Someone who causes a problem themselves doesn't receive an exchange under warranty. An iPad returned for any reason - returned for payment credit with no problems, or returned for an exchange under warranty is refurbished.
An exchange under warranty can be a new or refurbished iPad with no way to tell the difference, and which remains under the same warranty as the original purchase.
Yeah I did show it to the genius staff and then he showed it to another staff which I believe that he was a genius bar manager because he was wearing black top. He said that it's normal when LCD boots up and caused the horizontal lines, and wont let me replace. Any of you have this issue ?

I've never noticed that but I've never looked. However, are you suggesting that the horizontal lines disappear shortly after boot? If so, I wouldn't consider it to be a problem.

Well yeah, the lines disappear after it but it happens every time when the iPad wakes up from sleep.
Thanks
Well, I'm a little uncertain how to respond. I just checked mine and I did not see the lines after wake-up. On the other hand, if I did see them, I wouldn't worry about it.
As far as I'm aware, they're refurbished. Ironically, a refurbished unit is less likely to have problems than a new unit because it's individually tested.
