ok, I know this has been asked, but I can't seem to find the previous posts asking this.

I know the old forum would not let you change your username.

I don't see a way now to do it with this new one, but, are there plans to work that into the system and also change all your back posts?

I know that you can just start over, but I hate to lose the points and previous posts in one access point.

Again, forgive me for asking this age old question..

I'm not sure how many points are needed to report a post, but if you can, simply report yours and use the "username issue" or something similar to contact the hosts.

sorry, I don't understand your reply. My questions was if the forum will gain the ability for one to change the username associated with your account.

  • babowa Level 7 Level 7 (27,340 points)

Well, I understood your question to mean that you wanted to change your username? If that is correct, you may be able to accomplish that by asking a host - hence my suggestion to report your own post in order to get a host's attention. They may then contact you directly.  If I misunderstood what you wanted, I apologize.

No. While it was possible to change our usernames at will with the Web Crossing software that was used here until late 2005, it doesn't seem to be a feature that will be available to us using the present Jive software.

  • babowa Level 7 Level 7 (27,340 points)

There was an announcement by Eric some time ago that the feature would be available in the new communities with the help of a host - has that idea been abandoned?

  • Tuttle Level 7 Level 7 (29,405 points)

There was an announcement by Eric some time ago that the feature would be available

If that announcement was made, I didn't seen it. That's not to say that that announcement wasn't made, but maybe you could provide a link...?

the feature would be available in the new communities with the help of a host

Clearly, some people have seen their user names changed for one reason or another, you being one of them.

From what I've seen, some user names have been changed due to privacy concerns (i.e., they'd been using their real names), and others because they'd had multiple accounts using the same email address, and those accounts were merged at the time of the changeover.

Whether anyone and everyone will have the opportunity to change their user names isn't something I've heard discussed.

It wasn't an announcement, it was in the Feedback forum and Eric chimed in on one person's request to change the name. He said that it would be possible with the help of a host (and that is why I thought there is a "username issue" option in the new 'report a post'. I spent 45 minutes searching last night before I gave up; I couldn't remember the topic or date, but filtered it to the forum, Eric, and/or myself - could not find it. I would have had it in about 3 seconds if my subscriptions had ported over.

Yes, I can only see these results for Eric W. AND user AND name.

Closest quote from Eric W. on the issue seems to be here:

Once you create an alias, you cannot make changes to it. If you want to change your alias, you will need to create a new User Account."

"Username issue" under Report link usually has to do with reporting inappropriate user names, or, as has been the case recently, reporting login issues where people have had multiple accounts merged in the changeover.

    powerbook --

I think you are stuck with that name.

    (I always kinda liked it!)

I know Eric did hint that it MIGHT be possible in the new system,

but the thinking now is that it really isn't.

Thank you ~Bee for confirming that I've not lost it completely or talk to too many imaginary friends......

thanks guys for the reply.  My username is  just fine, but I haven't had a powerbook in many years and was just wondering if the option would exist with this new forum to be able to update your username and have it change it in all of your previous posts.

I too remember reading that reference awhile back, but like you could not find it now.

It's odd, you can change about anything else but that...

But, thanks for your help in determining the answer to my question.

  • powerbook1701 Level 3 Level 3 (555 points)

oh, and I understand what you meant now that your clarified...

  • Tuttle Level 7 Level 7 (29,405 points)

I've put in a request that Eric or another Host reads this topic and clarifies what may have been said earlier wrt changing user names in this new system.

    Hope that helps.

I have read the instructions in this post which are pretty clear.

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2580936?threadID=2580936&tstart=0

However the user Ali Brown only explains how to create a new username for the support communities by creating a New Apple ID.  He does not explain how to do this without signing up for a new Apple ID,  even though subsequent comments say you can.

I am finding this issue annoying. My company owns this Apple ID, and is associated with several items including a developer login.  The username I am associated with in this forum belongs to employees who left many years ago.  I did contact Apple Support, who directed me to Itunes support who keeps telling me I am logging in with the wrong username, which is nonsense.
