    What sort of deleted files?

This link provides the data that is included with your iPad's backup.

If the files are included with your iPad's backup - you synced your iPad with iTunes before the files were deleted and you haven't synced your iPad with iTunes since the files were deleted, restore your iPad with iTunes from your iPad's backup. Do not sync your iPad with iTunes before doing so, and when prompted to update your iPad's backup as the first step after selecting Restore, decline this prompt.

Does iCloud backup help with this? I only just noticed this setting (in iCloud) on my iPad.

"casey", a little bit late reply but hope you can still hear. ^^

The fact is there might be another way to recover your lost iPad files via iTunes on your Mac machine. This Mac utility is able to extract & restore iTunes backup files for your lost iPad data. Not too many Mac users know that each time you sync data between your iDevice (iPhone, iPod, iPad) and iTunes, all previous records will be backed up by iTunes automatically and saved as (.sqlitedb) files.
Hope this helps take your stress out.
    Best regards.

I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link

When you deleted files on your iPad 2, they were not gone forever. Deleting won't make them erase permanently. Those deleted files are still stored on your iPad, they're just invisible or inaccessible. You can recover them with data recovery program.

Have you ever get your iPad data lost, such as delete data accidentally, get iPad stolen or broken, repairs that asks you to erase all data on iPad, reset your iPad mistakenly, corruption or iOS upgrade causing data loss?

Actually, there are two ways for you to recover your deleted notes from iPad: recover it by extracting your iTunes backup file, or by scanning your iPad.
