how do you delete phantom volumes

Apparently when my imac shut down it did not (or I did not) unmount a couple of ext drives and now I have phantom volumes which is totally messing up my backups....

Above is LS of /Volumes directory.. At this moment neither Master Data Backup or Master Data Backup-1 are connected.


I need to delete the entries to allow my backup software to be consistant.


Any thougths on how one might do this??
