migration assistant problems

I have a new MacBook Pro and and a 5.5 year old MacBook. I am using the Bluetooth to transfer data between the two computers. The computers search for one another, then I enter the Passcode and it says, "Preparing Information" on both computers. However, my old MacBook then goes back to the Network Setup page and says it has found my MacBook Pro and asks for the passcode again. I re-enter the passcode and then it continues to search for "other computers" instead of giving me any options to transfer data. I know that I am connected wirelessly because I have sent other files over using the Bluetooth "Send File" option. That has worked fine. I even sent over an entire Quicken program and all oft the data to my new computer. But, when I tried to send over my iTunes library, I couldn't. And, as music is a huge part of my life, that is VERY important for me! 🙂 I can send everything over using bluetooth, but this is annoying!

Solved my problem. Used Command-R to enter restore mode. Used Disk Utility to erase the main partition with Lion. Selected restore/reinstall Lion - into the main partition that I just erased. After Lion was installed, I used Migration Assistant to restore from the Time Machine backup from the old MacBook Pro.

So far, looks like it imported everything correctly. Hopefully no addition "junk" from the old hard drive, but so far everything is working great - just a lot faster w/ the quad core and 8G memory.

Hope this helps someone.

Hi, guys.

I tried to MA between my Macmini 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo and Macbook Pro 2.3GHz Core i5 with the latter being the target computer. I wanted to do the transfer via network and I got up to the point where the source computer is prompted with entering the passcode boxes. The problem now is that I couldnt get the numbers in. I've tried to switch between Macbook becoming the source and Macmini as the target to see if the same problem happens, but there was no problem at all. I can easily fill the passcode without any hassle.

Im suspecting there must be something fishy with my macmini but I dunno where should I look into. Is there any way that I can solve this problem without having to resort to Firewire?

Thanx in advance.
