Here's an interesting thing I noticed with both my Macbook Pros:
While I can boot from an external USB DVD drive with the original optical drive still in the device, once it's removed and replaced by a second hard drive I can't anymore. Same with USB keys.
Can anybody confirm this? And - is there a workaround in way shape or form?

The MacBook Air has an optional external SuperDrive, which works ONLY with the Air.
trifero: Were you able to boot anything other than OSX over USB? It's normal to be able to boot OSX on USB media, however, booting anything else fails to boot over USB on my 2011 MBP.
Apologize, heathman001. All i booted were Os X system. I didn´t read deep enough.
Yeah, this is a major problem when you run into a situation requiring an SSD firmware update.
