a friend of mine gave me a heads up that a company near him is going bankrupt and has few mac stuff to sell - I'm after a XServe they have
He only has the Serial Number ( or I think its the SN, since it starts with SN and was taken off the back of the server ) which is : SN ck93899810j
How can I check which model it is , mainly which cpu's ? G5 ? Xeon ?

Apple's site to check is here: http://support.apple.com/specs/
That serial doesn't seem to return a result, however. I would double-check it and try the above.
Some non-Apple sites suggest it is the latest version of Xserve based on it's production date but I would take that with a grain of salt if Apple's site doesn't return a result.
The posting of your Xserve serial numbers in public is usually discouraged for the protection of your own interests, BTW.

Enter the serial.
It will show if it's under warranty or Applecare, etc,
but more importantly, it will list "Xserve (Early 2009)" etc, which will help in determining the hardware.
I was able to run your serial number and it comes back as an Xserve (Early 2009) model. Which would mean it is an intel xeon final generation model.
was given this serial number - which Xserve it is and how can I check it ?
