iPhone & wireless ad-hoc network problem

Hi all,

I am having persitent problem with iPhone (eversince iOS 3.1.3) on wireless ad-hoc network such that once it is setup, everything is fine (I can use shared ethernet connection on my XP laptop) untill I disconnect or iPhone Auto-Locks.

After that I am unable to connect to internet anymore.

I noticed that, while all is OK initially, on the iPhone in Wi-Fi networks details there are

IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router, DNS defined and Search Domains defined.

After I disconnect Wi-fi and reconnect again, only IP Address and Subnet Mask contains details while Router and DNS are empty and I am unable to connect to the internet.

Can that be a reason maybe? (undefined/lost Router and DNS addresses?)

For info:

Win XP Laptop is connected to the internet via Etherenet (wired) connection and that connection is shared. (“Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection" is checked) while Wireless card is used for Laptop-iPhone connection.

After pushing RENEW LEASE wireless display indicator DROPS-OFF after approx 10 seconds or lists IP Address in the form 169.x.x.x and Subnet Mask only while the rest is blank.

For IP Address in the form 169.x.x.x ref: edwardclint post on http://www.ipad-answers.com/how-to-renew-the-ip-address-on-my-apple-ipad/

Have tried all of the solutions suggested (http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3304, http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1398 ) but nothing helps. Once Wireless network (SSID) is removed from XP system and added new again, everything works fine until iPhone Auto-locks and the problem is back again.

It apperas that nothing really helps - ref https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2135367

This can even be Windows problem since my wireless connection is defined as secured by WEP key while "List of wirelles connections" reads "Unsecured comp-to-comp network". (?)

Anyway, I tried and followed http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/threads/using-laptop-wired-etherent.6820/ at the bottom with one exception:

DNS on iPhone maches Default Gateway in PC LAN (ethernet, wired) settings obrained by calling ipconfig (LAN IP & Default Gateway address are assigned automatically).

Is this what you meant?

Ok. I think I have solved my problem (ipod loses connection to ad hoc wifi Internet after waking up from sleep). This solution has worked for almost 24 hours - which is a record for me. I had been working on this problem for 2 days and there was a sequence of events that did work but I couldn't figure out what it was. So.......

1.Shut off computer and ipod touch.

2. Reboot router.

3. Reboot computer.

4. Reboot ipod. Might take a bunch of times of this whole sequenceto get the correct router settings back on the ipod. Don't know why, sometimes comes back easy, sometimes next day.

5.When the ipod wifi settings are correct, go to Settings> General> AutoLock and set to NEVER.

6. When done with wifi (every time) - turn off wifi on ipod Settings>WIFI> Off and manually put to sleep.

This is the longest period I have gone without totally losing access to wifi and having to shut everything off and rebooting everything.

If you don't hear from me tomorrow it is still working for me.
