I recieved as a gift from my uncle who had used it for years with no problem, however when I connect everything and try to capture video all I get from imovie is a pixilated image and a message that says the device is putting out half sized frames and to check the connections and camera settings. what can I do to solve this problem. any help would be greatly apppreciated.

Hey guys,

I had the same problem last week when I got my new iMac & used iMovie HD. I got a message saying that the frames were half sized (though I couldn't see anything). I re-connected the cables from both ends, made sure the vcr was set to the proper setting, selected SP or SLP, unplugged the Dazzle bridge & powered on again. Got the camera connected message, as I did the first time, selected play, but no video image ... waited a couple of seconds and then it worked. It seems that I had to select play & import then de-select them, wait again for a second and then try to capture ... go figure. I've used it a couple of times now and it's worked fine. I think I also flipped the toggle switch on the Dazzle unit once it was connected to iMovie & I think this also worked ... can't remember for sure, but I think this also helped straighten it out.

The Dazzle bridge DOES work with Tiger & iMovie HD.

Let me know if this helps.

Take care,
Brent

Does the pixilated image happen with all of your tapes that you try to capture in iMovie or is it just this one? Have your re-wound tape to the beginning? Maybe getting tightened around the spool might help??? What about plugging in / powering on the Dazzle unit when iMovie is open?? ... the vcr is set to channel 3 right? Have you flipped the little toggle on the back of the Dazzle unit? How's the audio? Is there any? Does your vcr have an s-video out port? Have you used different/new rca cables?

I apologize for all the questions - you've probably thought of all of the above.

Other than that, I've got no clue ... sorry.

If you get it solved, post a message.

Good luck.

I haven't had the pixelization problem, but have had color/audio/sync problems with iMovie HD. I am also using the Hollywood Dazzle Bridge. Yours is happening on import? My problems are happening on export, and the import function is great. Have you had any successful imports? What was your uncle using with the Dazzle? (Just curious....we were using G3 iMacs with iMovie 2 and they worked great. When we switched to the new G5 iMacs is when they started going crazy....)

For me the Dazzle Hollwood dv bridge does not work anymore with iMovie, Quicktime 7 etc on MacOS 10.44, although it used to work beautifully in Panther. I tried it on a PC and Quicktime Pro 7 for Windows and Quicktime did not recognize that a camera was even plugged in (even though other apps like MS Movie did and capture correctly and Windows XP saw the camera). I suspect the problem is more with quicktime on both platforms.

On the back of the Dazzle Hollywood box - at the top... There is a little white button that can be toggle left or right. I was having the SAME problem reported... When iMovie shows "No Device Control", notice the green light on the front of the Dazzle is in the middle. Toggle the switch once to the right and the light at the front will move up - and turn red. Toggle the switch once (again) to the right and the light should be green - on the bottom - and you should see video.

Be sure your audio settings (presuming you want to listen via your internal speakers, the correct output is set in Sound Preferences).

I hope this helps!
