iPod Touch 2G stuck in Recovery Mode.. How do I get out?

My iPod Touch 2G froze on the homescreen. I restarted my iPod by holding down the Home Button and the Power Button. Now when my iPod boots up, it just gets to the Apple Logo and stops there. I tried connecting my iPod to my computer, but iTunes couldn't identify it. So after googling what to do, I put my iPod into Recovery Mode, then I plugged my iPod back into the computer. iTunes then told me that it has discovered an iPod Touch in Recovery Mode.

With a sigh of relief, I told iTunes to recover my iPod Touch. But nothing happened. So I clicked on my iPod in the iTunes menu and I pushed "Restore." iTunes then say "Waiting for iPod Touch....." Then it showed the restore bar on both iTunes and my iPod. I waited an hour, and the restore bar did not move an inch. So I stopped the restore, and downloaded the newest firmware for the Second Generation iPod. I held shift and clicked Restore, and I selected that firmware that I downloaded to restore onto my iPod Touch. But it still does the same thing. It shows the Restore Bar and it shows no progress. Does anybody know how I can fix my iPod without having to send it to Apple, or go to an Apple Store?

iPod touch, iOS 4.1
