Yellow Tint on New Imac..

got my new 27" imac last night and got the dreaded although slightly yellow tinted bottom half of screen. I posted this on Mac Rumors as well. Anyone else have this issue with their new imac? Otherwise, really nice machine. I'm buying another one will send back the defective one for a refund.

Go here to test if you got it.

Thanks.....I told them I'm not giving up....I'll return and then recieve as many replacments as necessary until I one with a nice consistent screen that satifies my needs Recalibrating my display makes no difference because the contrast ratio is still the same between different areas of the screen. when you are in work like I am where adjusting color is SO important...I can't put up with this Sh*t. Im confident Apple will make it right though.

Thanks

Marconiusrex, I feel your pain. I use Macs for professional use as well. Just picked up another i7 iMac and, as sure as my spidy sense was telling me before opening, the bloody screen is defective AGAIN! This time I'm asking for some sort of gas credit or something, as it takes a lot of time to repack and drive back.

So the new machine, like the past one, has a blinding white bottom half and a muggy white top half. Except I can see some yellow tinging in the top dark area, vs it being in the bright bottom half this time. But what's most annoying, when watching any video or using a dark background, is that light bleed from the bottom right corner is exceptionally bad.

Concerning my earlier post, I've noticed that in addition to the uneven backlighting and yellow tinges, that Apple is intentionally setting the whole screen warm. I felt it important to point out, should someone plug a second 27 Cinema Display into one of the Mini Display Ports and wonder why they look different. The Cinema Display is natively calibrated to work with sRGB out of the box, while the iMac display's native white point is overly warm/yellow to begin with. Ironic, isn't it, as they are the same display. I can only hope Apple updates the iMac to properly calibrate the iMac screens in the future.

For anyone still reading, I am now on my fourth iMac. YES, fourth for 2011. No excitement even left in opening the box any more.

Screens/iMacs 1 and 2 both had Western Digital noisy drives and screens with yellow tint. Screens/iMacs 3/4 have the much quieter Seagate drive, but the screen issues are a bit different. In the slightly newer ones, there is a dark bar that runs just above the doc, from left to right. There's STILL uneven brightness in all of the monitors though, with bottoms betting too hot compared to tops. iMac 3 had bad light bleed in bottom left and right when watching movies, while iMac 4 has less light bleed at bottom corners, but now introduces some in the top left and right. iMac 3 was the only one without yellowing. Had its backlight been just a touch more accurate, I'd have kept it. Now, I don't know what to do, and this whole debackle is costing me time and money.

Anyone considering this iMac and screen combo should read what Apple states -

"...LED-backlit display is... uniformly bright..."

"The iMac display looks great from any seat in the house (178 degree viewable angle)"

http://www.apple.com/imac/features.html#displays\

Apple "Geniuses" were biting their tongues on those quotes by the 4th exchange. First exchange? "You're the first person to have had that problem". Funny, I hear that kind of bs line parroted around a lot online for customers with similar problems.

I think Apple better change its advertising statements before someone considers a lawsuit. As it stands, I should be billing them several hundred for all the hours of down time.

I feel your pain....supposed to return the 2nd one tomorrow and get the 3rd one next week. The problems you and Aunty are having are making me nervous about the next one. I also agree - I like the quiet Seagate drive better too...got the WD on the 2nd one, but I doubt Apple will let you pick which one you get...you get what you get. I hope the 3rd one has no issues, but am not super hopeful. My second one also had a tiny tiny dead bug or piece of debris on the upper right corner.

If I get a bum one on the third try I might try the "have the local Apple Store switch out just the display.

I'll keep you posted.

Aunty June -- I'd love to say I'm completely shocked/ surprised, but I'm not. Apple G-man today suggested I send an email off to Apple tech through this site. I don't think that would help. A - I'm sure they are aware of the problem, if such a high percentage is going out with defects and B - All they have to do is read (and hopefully not delete) these feedback forums.

I find settling at this point abhorrent. Apple states "uniform brightness" and that's what I need. It shouldn't even be a discussion.

Here's the biggest problem. I needed a new tower and a new display. In every respect other than screen issue, the i7 iMac is a fantastic bit of engineering with a fare price for the tech. But take away the screen (by having to buy a second display for accuracy) and you just paid 2,500 for a "tower in a monitor", plus another grand for an external. If Apple's Mac Pros had been updated at the same time, rather then being woefully outdated, I'd consider one of those and buy an NEC display.

Wish I knew what to do.

You both have a point...if I did it I'd ask for a waiver in writing first. Or I could continue to return them until I get one that's right but it could get rediculous. The other option is to return it and get my money back and wait until they get these production issues resolved.

I hate to say it but the Apple is looking a bit tarnished in my eyes right now.

Here's hoping third time is a charm!

Well, when I picked up the 4th iMac, I was told by the store that I could return it one more time for a refund, but they couldn't swap any more "I do design work and need even colour"... and "Apple advertises even brightness on the screen" were met with "Well, maybe the iMac just isn't right for you". So remember fellow designers, Apple doesn't apparently produce a screen good enough for you, even at the 2,000+ range. Those geniuses should really watch what statements they make, especially considering the SAME screen is used as a stand-alone monitor typically hooked up to Mac Pros. Would they in turn go telling a Mac Pro customer that the Cinema Display "just isn't right for you"?.

I feel like the victom here, out 2,500 after tax, sitting with a 4th screen having a dark bar running through it. Yet I'm treated like I'm the one hassling them.
