New Iphone user. Any way to skip songs without using touch screen?

Hi brand new IPhone 4 user here, never owned an iphone before. I'm frustrated with the supplied Ipod app.

I used to use an old Ipod which was stolen. To skip quickly to the next song, I would click an easy to find place on the right of the click wheel. I am frustrated that there is no similar function on the iphone. No way to just skip songs quickly, without activating the touch screen, and locating the very small next track icon on the screen.

Is there any way that I am missing to do this. Or any other apps that I can download to do it?

Some headsets have inline remotes that allow this. On mine 1 click = play/pause. Double click = go to Next, tripple click reverse to begining if more than 1/2 through song or goes to previous song if close to begining.

The standard headset that ships with the iPhone supports this, and any thir-party [wred] headset with a "push to answer" button also supports this. I use it quite often myself.

One long click also gives you voice control. That comes in handy since it gives you additional features… when it works (tried dialing the wife once and got the local Army recruiter. My fault I suppose for marrying a woman whos name sounds so much like the military service). Somewhere online I saw a list of available voice commands. It included several controls for the ipod app as well as others.
