Problem downloading iphone software

Hey I am trying to update the latest sofware for my iphone 3gs (version 4.3.3). It downloads but just as it finishes downloading the error message "There was a problem downloading the software to the iphone 'Pauline's iphone'. The network connection timed out." comes up. I have tried 5 times but the same thing happens every time.
Please help me how do i solve this issue?

Peer-to-peer or is one of the computers solely serving as the server? Are you automatically updating antivirus/antispyware software/libraries?

As I asked before, are you getting a complete download/save of the update to your computer and then it does not transfer/update the iPad or is it failing to download it to your computer and giving an error message? If it is the latter there is nothing in 4.3.3 that would cause such behavior nor has there been any change in the delivery method.

If you are not auto updating your AV/AS software is it possible you have an infection or malware software on your computer? What did AppleCare try?

And do you have another computer, not on your network, that you can try the update?

I'm usually VERY dubious about having to disconnect/disable my antivirus software because it smacks of deparation on the part of the tech guy.

However, on this occasion (after several attempts on different days to upgrade to 4.3.3), I paused my Kaspersky for 5 mins and it updated first time. This cannot be a coincedence.

As a suggestion for improvement (not crticism), perhaps when the 'fail' box pops up to tell me that my connection timed out, the box could specifically suggest turning off my AV for 5 mins to allow Apple in.

Funny how Apple is percieved by antivirus software as questionalbe, huh?!

I just thought I'd chime on the issue, too. I have an Ipad 2, but was getting the same exact error message mentioned in the original post. No matter how many times I restarted my computer, it still kicked me off the internet routed signal and gave me the message. I don't have any anti virus software so there was nothing to disable. However, I did follow the suggestion of doing a hard reboot of my Ipad 2. Amazingly it worked! Thanks for solving my problem! 🙂

I had this same problem and solved it when I realized that the software upgrade download was about 600MB, but I had less free space available on the iPhone.

So I deleted some large music files to make space available, then started the upgrade again and it worked fine.

One caveat: since I had "Automatically fill free space with songs" checked in iTunes, under the iPhone "Music" tab, simply deleting songs from the iPhone's playlist did not clear up the space. Other songs got loaded to fill up the space. I had to uncheck "Automatically fill free space with songs" as well as delete songs in order to free up the space.

Hope this helps.

Well, I'm an IMac owner, with the same message " There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone...Network connection failed." I did all the network diagnostics that I knew to review. All lights green...and nothing obvious. I don't have any anti-virus software running in the background. And, I tried restoring and then updating the software to just get the same message once more. I'm trying to update to iOS5 to no avail. Any other brilliant ideas? Anyone? This is making me a wee bit crazy. Help?

Texasjoi, I was just helping someone with the same exact problem. Here's what I did and it finally updated the phone without the said Network Connection error message. First, kill ALL apps by double-pressing the home key on the iPhone and hold-down one of the icons until it wiggles, then tap on the red dots to terminate each app. Second, power off the iPhone. Third, turn off anti-virus software. Finally, turn on the phone and try the update again. It worked for us.
