MAC Mail not saving all sent items

Hi,

I'm using OS X 10.6.7 and using MAC Mail over an IMAP connection.

For some reason this particular MAC Mail is not saving / recording all sent emails. The recipient is receiving them all so they've definitely been sent, but they're not appearing in the sent items / sent folders.

I have tried exactly the same IMAP account on another OS X 10.6.7 mac and ALL emails appear in the sent items.

It seems there is a fault / bug with the MAC Mail. Is there any hotfixes out there or any steps to try to ensure evry sent email is logged / saved in the sent folders?

Thanks

Chris

I don't know if this solution is mentioned yet, 44pages..
But it worked for me:

- In your inbox folder, create a new folder named: Send Messages
- Select the folder "Send Messages"

- Go to Mailbox -> Use this mailbox as -> Send mailbox

- Send a test mail and see if it will appear in the "Send Messages" mailbox!

Hope this will work for you!

My internet provider told me that IDLE - which they support - has nothing to do with this bug.

They asked me to change some settings, which I did. But I also applied Razzo's suggestion. For the time being it's working, although I can still notice some delay in the sending procedure. In other woird, I have to wait for a couple of seconds (even more) before the email is sent.

By the way I have Moutain Lion as OS.

Regards

I am having the exact same problem, but it is limited to 1 specific recipient. All other e-mails I have sent are there under Sent items. I use a standard IMAP account from our ISP at work. At the moment I am running the GM of Mavericks (10.9).

It seems very strange that only e-mails to one specific recipient would not be saved. Further, all e-mails I have sent to this recipient have vanished without trace. So I have 100% fail for this address, but 100% success on all other mails I have sent. What is going on???

Hi Phil,

Thanks for sharing this - does the failing email address happen to have any characters other than letters (abcd...) in it? This would include the the full name and email address, e.g; John Appleseed <john@someisp.com>

Could there be anything non-typical about the messages that you send to this person; attachments, different signature, time of day that messages are sent to them, etc?

Hi John,

no, the e-mail address in question belongs to the Swedish government and apart from letters there is only a dash ( - ) in the address, which should not present any kind of problems. I have had no problems so far with other addresses that include dashes.

The messages I have sent have only included plain text, and my standard plain text signature - no attachments or such. The lost messages have been sent both from my office and my home internet connection, and during office hours as well and evening/weekend.

If you go to that feedback page there is no option to give feedback on Mail!

I'm also missing some Sent mails - I don't know yet if they were delivered. I unticked IDLE and they are now being saved in the Sent folder, but not sure if disabling IDLE will cause other issues?

OSX 10.8.5 12F45, just installed the October 2013 s/w update.

What are the implications of turning IDLE off?

I still have the same issue in OS X Mavericks. My gmail IMAP always works flawlessly, but my school email address IMAP does not save all sent mail.

I've been using thunderbird for the last couple of years without ever having the same problem (thought I don't like the program), but every once in a while I will check to see if the problem is fixed in Mail. I've also been following this thread for over a year now waiting for a solution. Apparently Apple doesn't care to fix the problem.

I was just wondering, with the new update Apple have released ie "the Mail fix", which was more to do with Gmail issues but also apparantley addresses several mail fixes whether the problem of "sent mail not saving" has been resolved for most users ? (am currently using Postbox which is pretty decent, but would go back to mail.app if this is fixed).

I wouldnt expect that it got fixed because from apples point of view there is nothing that has to be fixed. Its only us, the stupid customers, that are unable to use this amazing, wonderful, breathtaking, pathbreaking software properly. I only wonder why I am able to work with postbox, thunderbird, opera mail without any issues. Maybee we would have to get better and try harder to get along with mail.app.
