MAC Mail not saving all sent items

Hi,

I'm using OS X 10.6.7 and using MAC Mail over an IMAP connection.

For some reason this particular MAC Mail is not saving / recording all sent emails. The recipient is receiving them all so they've definitely been sent, but they're not appearing in the sent items / sent folders.

I have tried exactly the same IMAP account on another OS X 10.6.7 mac and ALL emails appear in the sent items.

It seems there is a fault / bug with the MAC Mail. Is there any hotfixes out there or any steps to try to ensure evry sent email is logged / saved in the sent folders?

Thanks

Chris

I don't know if this solution is mentioned yet, 44pages..
But it worked for me:

- In your inbox folder, create a new folder named: Send Messages
- Select the folder "Send Messages"

- Go to Mailbox -> Use this mailbox as -> Send mailbox

- Send a test mail and see if it will appear in the "Send Messages" mailbox!

Hope this will work for you!

Hello, a couple of weeks ago I mapped the correct folders, however the issue came back today: some sent emails are not appearing in the Sent folder.

An important work related email I sent today, with a 8.5MB attachment does not show in the Sent folder, neither on the Mac Mail nor on the webmail. I'll have to call my client tomorrow to make sure he got the email =(

Any further ideas how to fix this issue?

Over a year later *(I'm responding to a May, 2013 post), but I'd like to thank you, Razzo, for the Smart Mailbox suggestion. I've been watching my sent mails disappear by the hundreds at Mail's whim; watching the preferences "Save Sent mail to server" box uncheck itself at random intervals, etc etc. Creating the Smart mailbox collected some 27,000 emails (yike, but if the ones I want are in there I can remove the rest!). I haven't followed this thread and related ones extensively but am inclined to move to an alternate program, though nothing comes very highly recommended. Do I want to trade these issues in for a Microsoft product? :-|

thanks so much for this info. I've spent countless hours w/tech support and never does Apple seem to want to take responsibility for things going wrong (I could write a feature article about incidents over the last decade...unbelievable). But I am experiencing the same problem with sent mail not showing up. I recently noticed it about a month ago. I also noticed that mail with no subject matter doesn't show up at all, and if there is a thread of replies with the same subject (ie 'testing 123), only the first reply will show up, none of the follow ups will archive. I'm on Snow Leopard still, but I see this isn't a Snow Leopard thing as I originally thought it might be. I've noticed 2 years worth of comments on this board about this issue and it's taken Apple this long to own up? Unbelievable!!! Ps: I'm having the problem with AOL and Mac mail

Razzo, I appreciate you sharing, and your post is the ONLY acknowledgment of Apple even fessing up to something being wrong. They are great at throwing blame on everyone else. So thanks for that

I forgot to mention in my earlier reply, I'm using AOL and Mac mail, both are vanishing, at random, for several months now (I see most on this thread are Yahoo or Gmail). I'm using Snow Leopard, but from what I see, it doesn't matter what OS you are on, it's hitting everyone at random. The Mail program has a crapload of things wrong with it, first being that it will every month or so decide to go offline. I've figured out that the account you use the most somehow gets corrupt and you have to delete it, reinstall it, and suddenly all the other email accounts are back online. Then from time to time, mail comes in four copies to each email...then suddenly sorts itself out. But the sent mails vanishing is seriously bad when trying to run a biz, as I am. This is on both my computers btw as well as my iphone. No one should have to be a friggin scientist to deal with their email :-(

Hello everyone - Its been a wile since last post and not sure if anyone solved the problem.

I can't say how long this as been happening to me but las week I was searching some emails I sent and they where not in sent emails box. I made some testing to make sure and the problem really exists. 😟 I found this discussion and after 40 pages and 2 years no one came with a answer to the problem?

In my case in the account settings (exchange) I changed the smtp server to Exchange (exchange) and sent some test emails.

Now it seems to be working just fine. The mails are appearing in the sent email folder.

I hope this info can help someone. I'm not computer expert.....

I just found the bug! It has to do with the order of the accounts in your Accounts.plist file. This file is in ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData

You have to manually edit this file and move the account that needs the sent stored to it to the top of the MailAccounts section. Copy from the <dict> to </dict> for the appropriate account and move it to the first position under the iCloud account if it exits. I was able to repeatedly change which machine would get my sent messages. Previously I was loosing them all. I had an exchange account, and gmail account ahead of them in my plist file. My guess is that one of them didn't store sent. Therefore they were lost.

There are two main <Key> sections. the first is DeliveryAccounts, the second is MailAccounts.

MailAccounts is the section with the problem. This problem has plagued me for over a year. So glad I took the time to find out what was going on.
