MAC Mail not saving all sent items

Hi,

I'm using OS X 10.6.7 and using MAC Mail over an IMAP connection.

For some reason this particular MAC Mail is not saving / recording all sent emails. The recipient is receiving them all so they've definitely been sent, but they're not appearing in the sent items / sent folders.

I have tried exactly the same IMAP account on another OS X 10.6.7 mac and ALL emails appear in the sent items.

It seems there is a fault / bug with the MAC Mail. Is there any hotfixes out there or any steps to try to ensure evry sent email is logged / saved in the sent folders?

Thanks

Chris

I don't know if this solution is mentioned yet, 44pages..
But it worked for me:

- In your inbox folder, create a new folder named: Send Messages
- Select the folder "Send Messages"

- Go to Mailbox -> Use this mailbox as -> Send mailbox

- Send a test mail and see if it will appear in the "Send Messages" mailbox!

Hope this will work for you!

So you are sending and receiving via a timed schedule rather than using Push (idle) does the provider not provide it.

In Mail, are sent messages set to save on server?

The SMTP port is 465 FYI, I believe that you took the common ports option in Mail so that should be correct.

Csound1 - Appreciate everyone is trying to solve and give advice about what could be the problem, however thinking this is a mail provider problem is a little ludicrous. It would be advisable to read all the conversations about this issue before you focus in on any particualr issue. As it stands now Apple has openly admitted it is a bug and like everyone else on this thread it has only started to occur recently with the latest round of releases.

It may also have been advisable to sum up the varied locations that this issue is affecting. It seems to be world wide which pretty much rules out the fact that its a mail provider unless the issue is gloably spread through somehow. This would be highly unusal.

So lets be clear here ITS A BUG so please Apple move to solve what is essentially a very annoying issue that can have deep rammifications for some people who rely legally on their email threads.

I'm having the same problem: some very important sent emails are not appearing in the "Sent" folder, and do not appear on the provider's webmail. Trust is paramount. If I cannot trust the email client (Apple Mail) provided with a new and expensive top-of-the-line iMac then it seems like I should seriously consider going back to using Windows PCs.

Many people and I have been posting to this forum for years about this problem. I opened and followed a support case until my warranty expired. Apple is not even trying to fix this frustrating problem that would take any competent engineer a few hours to diagnose and fix. Several diagnostics and fixes have been posted by users. When Mail fails to make a connection to the server (in my case to Yahoo/AT&T), Mail ignores the error and does not hold on to the sent message. My workaround is to uncheck Preferences/Accounts/Mailbox Behaviors/Sent/"Store sent messages on the server", and to take the "extra" step to drag the sent messages to my iCloud account folders for access on all my devices, something I would have to do to categorize them anyway. I don't see how Apple can read through this group and not act, so I humbly suggest that you all log support cases. With regards.

When I send an email from Yahoo's website it appears in:

  • the "Sent" folder on the website
  • the "Sent" folder under the YAHOO heading in the OS X Mail app

It does not appear in the "Sent" folder under MAILBOXES header in the OS X Mail app

Interesting to note however that in the OS X Maill app there are two "Sent" folders. One corresponds to "Sent" on Yahoo's website, while the other corresponds to "Sent Messages" on Yahoo's website. In the OS X Mail app:

  • under the "MAILBOXES" header the "Sent" folder corresponds to the "Sent Messages" on Yahoo's website.
  • under the "YAHOO" header the "Sent" folder corresponds to the "Sent" folder on Yahoo's website.

Seems like the OS X Mail app created the "Sent Messages" folder and that's where is tries to store sent messages, instead of using Yahoo's "Sent" folder.

I store sent messages on the server, and never delete them. That way I have access to all messages from all my Apple devices on the go.

It won't do that unless you map the Yahoo Sent folder to the Mail Sent folder, did you do that?

Find the folder that contains the actual folder that Yahoo is using and map that to Mails Sent folder.
