Is it really this tricky to join regoins?

I am working on several GB songs to reduce each of them to a 30 second clip that I want to use on a web site. I’ll locate the 30 sec section, split the region at either end, the drag the surrounding regions out of the way so I can listen clearly to the beginning and the end of the clip. Sometimes I don’t get it right and want to join two regions and try another split. The problem is that it often takes me 3-5 attempts to join the regions. Even though I think I have them exactly aligned I sometimes get the dialog box: “Non-contiguous audio regions require the creation of a new audio file!” I don’t think I want to do that.

1. Am I doing something wrong and how do I correct it?

2. Am I correct for my application in not wanting to create a new audio file?

If you want to undo the split, either use the undo command (GB allows lots of them unless you did a save in the meantime). Easier still: Every snippet of an audio file contains the whole original file: You can extend it on either end to find a new place to cut it - GB's cuts are non-destructive.

As for the joining of adjacent regions: I just tried it, you can re-join them if they touch exactly at the position where they were cut. If there's only a minimal overlap or gap (which can happen easily when you have the grid snap turned off) GB has to create a new combined region and rightfully asks you if you want to do that. (Beware: When you save the next time, you will lose all recordings that aren't used any more - so the originals will be lost if they aren't used elsewhere in your song.)

(I've had trouble with that function - wanted to join adjacent regions but didn't get that dialog, only an error beep.)
