You don't have enough access privileges

I have just gotten my computer fixed at the Apple store for a bad harddrive and a bad left fan. I bring my computer home and open up iTunes to plug in my new iPod Touch. I get an error that says "You don;t have enough access privileges for this operation." and then iTunes closes 5 seconds later. It does this everythime I open iTunes, and it happens right away.

I have already tried setting permissions to Read&Write for all users in the Get Info screen for my iTunes music folder and selected the "apply to enclosed folders." I've deleted and reinstalled iTunes twice. I've tried it all and can not get this stupid error to go away.

Any help would be great,Thanks

🙂 Good catch, JG.

The following KB doc also covers this issue (and has info on related issues with iTunes on Windows systems too):

iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization

hmm, i have that KB in my database, Tony, but it doesn't tackle iTunes quitting after giving the error (unless i missed something).

guess that's why i didn't mention it here 😉

🙂 No, you're doing fine. The article is the thing that is missing something. iTunes launch failures should really be added in there as another possible symptom of trouble with the SC Info folder. (There have been KB articles about it as a possible cause of iTunes for Windows launch failures for nearly 6 years, for example.)

@nsfw this was exactly my case. Thanks for putting the right keywords so my google search found your post. 🙂

The way I corrected mine, instead of moving the Shared folder over to the boot drive, I kept it in the HDD and created a symlink in the boot drive. This can be done by dragging and dropping the Shared folder to /Users folder while holding command+option.

Thanks!
