Why is the system.log empty?

Are you using server admin to see the log or the console?
If you use the console app you will always see some type of information inside.
I use the console.
In the archived logs there is only something like "May 19 00:30:28 server newsyslog[13872]: logfile turned over".
Also in the server admin app the log is empty.
Permissions on the log seem OK to me.
In the console go down to /private/var/log and hit the arrow so it goes down.
Scroll down untill you see system.log Under that you will see the previous system logs named something like system.log.0.bz2
See if you have these or if anything is inside.
Yes, I have those. There is nothing in them, except for the one-line notice when the logfiles have been turned over.
I have solved this. There was something wrong with the configuration in syslog.conf. I replaced syslog.conf with the default version and now everything is fine.
