How do I remove listings of ibooks.

I have a listing of books I have purchased in iTunes and would like to remove them from the listing. How do I remove (Delete) them?

I'm a newbie, but have you tried bringing up the 'Purchased' list in iBooks, swiping across the book icon/title you don't want to be able to see & selecting 'hide'? I have done this - the book icon/title then goes grey. If you change the 'sort' option e.g. From recent to by author you will find the listing will have vanished. From memory you can still get the book back somehow for settings, but hopefully this will protect your minors from easily being able to a access unsuitable content??? Let me know if this has helped :)

fly in the ointment... I have created several folders in the ibook app. By default any new additions go automatically into the 'pdf' folder. The latest file that I added (into the pdf folder) crashes the ibook 1.5 app. From the ipad2 (OS5) I cannot get into that folder to delete the offending document... frustratingly enough. I have removed ibook (and apparently all its associated data) only to see all documents back again under reinstalling ibook. When I use the latest version of itunes to delete the document (and after having removed and reinstalled ibooks) they are all still there. Funnily enough if I add a new document through itunes I can delete or choose not to sync the file, not however for the pre-existing files. As I now cannot access the default 'pdf' folder (on account of it crashing) I cannot add new documents to the ibooks application rendering it as useless as most of the 'advise' I have read in the last 3 hours. I feel the only option left is to reset the ipad back to factory settings and reinstall all of my app's and settings. I however have a sneaking suspision that if I can find the time and patience to do this that fu*king document will materialise again and I will back to square 1, minus many hours of wasted life.

I have a question--and it doesn't seem to have been answered by this thread. I have a purchased book, which I have read, and want to take off my iPad. I uncheck the box in iTunes and when I synch my iPad, iTunes (I guess--has a mind of its own) rechecks the box as it's synching.

The book shows up in my library on my iPad. I have done the revert/apply thing, but for some reason it doesn't work. This is the first time I have had this problem, since I have successfully removed books before.

Anything I am missing?

Sorry, I wanted to create a new question and not reply to NorthernKiwi and didn't know how to do that either.

You are much more likely to get answers if you start your own thread with a properly descriptive subject line. People who may know the answer may never find this post at the end of a largely unrelated (and somewhat contentious thread).

Best of luck.

Hi Revere47

An update for you on what I have found out.

Even after deleting the ibooks app and apparently all its assosciated data, when I reinstalled the app, all the documents, books and pdfs reappeared. Becasue of a bad file this rendered the app useless I needed to find a solution.

I went into the root folder on my PC where itunes backed up the documents; users/'your user name'/music/itunes/itunes media/music/books and deleted the cursed file (or in your case the book you no longer wish to see).

As I had backed up all the data I then used itunes to restore the ipad to the factory default (on the first tab of the ipad device, in itunes), in the restore process itunes offered me the chance to restore all my app's, settings and documents (from the PC back-up). As I had physically removed the offending file I hoped this would work. itunes noted that it could not locate the offending file and informed me so but this was what I hoped would happen. It took some time for all the data to be migrated back to the ipad but when it was done all was fine, all I had to do was organise my apps into their respective folder (on the ipad) again. The offending document has been banished and ibooks works again.

I know it was a somehat long winded and irritating process to go through but if I only did some sections of the process above the file would reappear so in my mind the ipad's ibooks cache (or similar) needed to be cleared as it was somehow retaining a copy of the documents.

Anyway I really hope this helps you out.

Thanks for trying to help!

Out of curiosity, did that professor work from the assumption that you had actually read the material and made some effort to work it out on your own before dumping the problem into his lap?

None of the suggestions made to you involve secrets inner workings or hidden mechanisms of the iPad or iBooks or iTunes. It's all standard stuff.

Please don't expect everyone here to automatically spoon feed you, nor to provide full detailed descriptions and instructions for each and everything that they might suggest. That's the function of the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store.

I just posted a question on this:

"- In iTunes you can choose not to sync all the books you bought, but only the ones you want to store on your iPad."

This doesn't work for me. I have two devices, one account. On device one I want just 7 books synced. On device two, I have 50 books. I have iTunes setup to sync "Selected Only" for device one. Problem is that when I purchase on device two, they sync back to iTunes, the next time I sync device one, that new book, even though I did not actively "select" it, shows on the device. I have to then uncheck and re-sync. Thoughts?

This is how I solved the problem of deleting a purchased iBook from the iPhone. I connected the device ot my computer and I unchecked the book I wanted off the device. Then, with the iPhone still connected, I opened the iPhone settings > iBooks > turn off "Show all Purchases". I followed with a sync -- Voila! unwanted book is gone while other purchases that are checked remain.

How do I remove listings of ibooks.
