pay as you go sim card data not working while roaming

Hi. I just boughan A1 abroadband sim card and it has a very cool offer : paying 0.59 euros per 1 mb in over 50 countries in the world.

Up to now fine. The only problem is when I put it into my UNLOCED iPhone 4 it connects to the cellular data network. I can see 3g or E next to my roaming carrier. The problem is when I try to actually use the internet I get a popout message saying that I do not have a data subsription and the data network could not be activated. Of course I do not have a data subsription it is a pay as you go card ! I've contacted the carrier and they told me there is nothing wrong with their network and I was told to contact apple since they might ahave a problem with the hardware settings. Help anyone ?

Virtually all prepaid SIM card vendors do not allow for international data roaming. Voice and texts are OK, but data is a no go.

Check again with the provider of your SIM card. I'll bet you 10 to 1 that international data roaming is not allowed where you are trying to connect.

I checked with the carrier and they do offer international data roaming on pay as you go. They told me that my phone settings are fine. They told me to contact apple because it might be os problem

The message you are getting sounds like it is coming from the network that you are attempting to access and not an iOS error message. I would call whatever network you are attempting to use and ask them about the issue.

I spent a lot of time with them on the phone. Iphone connects to the cellular data because I can see 3G or E next to the carrier I use. They checked the network and other phones are working...

If they cannot help you get it to work, they say it works with an iPhone, and the network you are trying to connect with say they support that SIM then I don't know anything more that you can do. Has this SIM worked in other places or is the first time you have tried it?

This the second carrier I am trying and the probles is exactly the same. I tried ERA in Poland and now A1 from Austria. I did not try The A1 sim in any other phone yet.

Check back with A1 where you bought it and tell them which iPhone you have and which version of the iOS (4.3.3?) you are using and see if they have tested with that configuration.

Yeah I use 4.3.3. But as I said before A1 and Era told me that on their side everything is ok. Both told me to contact apple. And it occured with previous os versions as well

You could try to Restore your iPhone in iTunes but if it occurred in previous versions then I doubt this will accomplish anything. So A1 told you they have tested this roaming SIM in an iPhone (your model) running iOS 4.3.x and it works?

I did restore it with no result. They haven't exactly told me that. They just said they don't have any problems with their network

Not having problems with their network tells you nothing that is of any help.

Call them and ask: "Does your A1 Roaming SIM work with an Apple iPhone 4 (or substitute whatever model you have) running iOS 4.3.3.? Have you tested it?" If they say no then it is possible this SIM won't work with your iPhone. Return it and get your money back.

I am pretty sure that the sim is not a problem but I will try using that argument anyway. As I said before, I used a different carrier that also is selling an Iphone 4 (Era in Poland) and the roaming data on pay per go would connect but would not activated. I guess I'm stuck between apple and providers :S

Like I said, it would be a good thing to know if the provider could say for sure that their SIM works with the iPhone running 4.3.3. If they say it does, and they've tested it, then the problem is your iPhone then you can get it serviced and get it to work. If they say it does not then you need to return it and get your money back. If they say they think it should work on the iPhone but it is an Apple problem then you can call AppleCare and give them information so their engineers can work on it.

As I said earlier, the message you are receiving when trying is not to my knowledge one that the iPhone iOS would issue, it sounds like something from a carrier.
