Help! My iPad 2 types and navigates from screen to screen on its own!

About a month and a half ago my ipad 2 started typing multiple letters and navigated and closing webpages on its own! Its really kind of creepy because it seems possessed! I'll be browsing the web minding my own business and then next thing I know the iPad 2 takes a mind of its own and starts closing my opened pages and clicking on different pages and vice versa, also sometimes when I'm typing, it'll start typing multiple letters when I just press a letter once, for example, I'll try and type "Supernatural is about to come on!" and It'll type "Suuupppeeernaaatuuural is aaaabbbboooouuuuut toooo cooomeee ooon!!!!" At first it did this like every blue moon and I would cut the screen off and cut it back on and that would stop it, but now that doesn't work anymore and its happening a lot more frequently! Does anybody know what causes this or better yet how to stop it?

When you say "cut the screen off and cut it back on" do you mean you press the sleep button so the screen turns black and then tap the home button to bring up the lock screen and unlock it? If so, you are just momentarily putting the iPad to sleep and nothing more so that's not going to solve anything. I don't know if this will help but do you ever turn the iPad off and turn it back on - reboot? Don't know that it will help but it can't hurt.

Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to turn the iPad off. Then hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears on the screen, let go of the button and the iPad will restart. Try it and see if it helps.

Well yeah, that's exactly what I do, because it does stop it from occuring momentarily, but I try to cut it completely off everyday for a little rest and the issue still happens.

Sounds like you have a sensitivity issue with your touch surface. Do you have a screen protector on he iPad or have you dropped it? It sounds like the issue is getting worse with time so it may be a manufacturing defect. Try doing a device reset. If that does not improve things contact Apple to see if you can get the iPad replaced.

I had a screen protector on it when I first got it, but it was a poor quality one from ebay, and I had to take it off. No, I've never dropped it. I treat it like a baby! Not even a scratch on it. I haven't tried a reset yet, I'll give that a try.

Were you able to solve the issue? My ipad2 was only 2 months old and it started having mind of its own. The best word is possessed as you have mentioned. I live in Maldives and do not have an Apple store even though we have authorized resellers. I bought my ipad2 from New York. I hope someone can give me a solution because I am not able to send this back to New York. :(

BTW a friend mentioned that the processor is faulty and nothing can be done. Still I am hoping because this is lot of money.

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. Well I told Apple support about it over the internet and they had me take it to a UPS and ship it back to them and 2 days later FedEx delivered me a new iPad 2.

heh... won't that be something. An iPad that responds directly to your thoughts. But maybe Apple is working on that as we speak! 😝

To the original posters, I don't think it's a CPU issue. Seems like some sort of shortage in the touch screen. Send it back to Apple like Kpoll did. Glad you got a shinny new pad Kpoll :-)

My iPad 2 is going exactly the same. I bought it in march and in the past couple of weeks it has started to have a mind of its own, I can be doing something and then it's as if I'm not controlling it anymore - it will swap page, type more letters. Is there a reason for this or should I just take it back to an apple store?

i am having the same problem!! does anyone have an answer, seems like this is common if google it...seems like apple would be able to direct their customers on what the problem is since so many people hae complained about it?
