How do I sort alphabetically in Numbers

I just need to sort a simple column of names in alphabetical order. There has to be a way to do this right/

I am not sure why sort ascedning or descending is useless. What other ways can you sort? Then you sort alphbetical you are sorting ascending if you sort A > Z, but you are sorting descending if you sort Z > A.


I suggest converting the 1st row of your table to a header by clicking the contextual menu for the row and selecting "Convert to Header Row"

Then you should be able to change the sort by more than 1 column where the column selector is more meaningful.

If you are not really wanting to sort but, instead, filter.... you can use the "Show rows that match the following" by selecting the Choose a column, then check the box
