How do I sort alphabetically in Numbers

I am not sure why sort ascedning or descending is useless. What other ways can you sort? Then you sort alphbetical you are sorting ascending if you sort A > Z, but you are sorting descending if you sort Z > A.

I suggest converting the 1st row of your table to a header by clicking the contextual menu for the row and selecting "Convert to Header Row"

Then you should be able to change the sort by more than 1 column where the column selector is more meaningful.

If you are not really wanting to sort but, instead, filter.... you can use the "Show rows that match the following" by selecting the Choose a column, then check the box

I did that also looked at several other posts on this site when I pull up the reorganize window the ONLY options that show up are ascending or descending which is USELESS, there are no other options listed for alphabetical or by date or anything else I need

And from the realm of wanting to throw my computer through the window. When I selected ascending descending before it did not arrange things alphabetically now it is. >< sorry for the bother

In your image you had "sort selected rows" and no selected rows. Do you have rows selected now? Or did you change the popup menu to "Sort entire table"?
