what will replace info xHead ?

Question

what will replace info xHead ?

I have been very happy using for a number of years the info .xHead software for encrypting important data ( bank, credit card, registration info etc etc etc )

they were great with on going support and updates

now i have a small problem that i can not edit a category ( the window does not appear )

but they seem to have disappeared/ vanished ( no more website ) xheadsoftware.com

does any one have a solution of how to fix this problem

and does anyone have a suggestion for a software to replace info.xHead

that works well on a Mac ?

You could store everything on an encrypted disk image.

I moved from Xhead to 1Password.

i have taken a look at 1Password

were you able to successfully export your info.xHead data into 1Password ?

any advice/tips would be truly welcomed

Summer, did you ever figure anything out? I just upgraded to Lion and info.xhead won't work. So I need to get my info exported and into something else.

Martha, I thought info.xhead was broken, too, when I first launched it under Lion. However, after giving it a few minutes after its first launch and then relaunching it, all of my password entries were accessible. Remember to unhide/show all of your categories on the left-hand-side (hover over the word "Categories" and click the "Show" link that appears next to it; this is a new Lion thing). I'm running version 2.0 (build 124), and it works just fine (so far, at least). Hope that helps.

You're right! Excellent.

The problem, though, is that the Opening Database... alert won't go away. It just stays there. That's why I assumed it wouldn't open. I can still see everything now, but I wish that would go away.

At least I didn't lose it all. Thank you!

dear Martha

i having been trying to use 1Password it is pretty good

but you can not add your own fields to it

yet the automatic system to login to webpages is a great plus with 1Password

as i have not found anything else so i am going to purchase it as i am still on the 30 day free trial

my problem is the my infoXhead got corrupted and i could not add fields any longer to it either.

and as there is no longer support for that software so i wanted something else where you can

get technical support if you need it.

what i suggest is using the feature in infoXhead to back everything up as a PDF

as a safety precaution.

if you find any other app that looks good i would be happy to hear about it

My problem with backing up as a PDF is that, as long as the Opening Database... progress alert remains up, my database can be opened and used, but I can't export at all.

I have a copy on my computer at home that I haven't upgraded to Lion, so I'll export it at home and see what I can do.

If you check for an update, it will fail, but the "opening database" window will disappear.

I can't see a problem with exporting. You can't export "all entries", only the different "categories" - you know that?

Yeah, I was trying to export all at once. I didn't realize that I had to export each category individually.

In the end, since info.xhead is dead, I've exported everything and imported them into Wallet, which imports it all in quite nicely.

You all saved me I panicked when it seemed info.xhead was not going to work but I did as you sugested. exported each group as CSV and imported perfectly into Wallet. 1Passowrd I could not figure out how to import But Wallet worked perfectly. thank you all for the various hints .

The old xhead URL clearly has lapsed. The xhead guys apparently are still around. They have a twitter feed <http://twitter.com/#!/xheadsoftware> and a different URL, although there's nothing there but a freshly installed Wordpress blog <http://x-head.com/>.

FWIW, I had a cosmetic bug when I opened info.xhead under Lion for the first time, but after clicking around a little, it still seems to work. Still, the situation is not reassuring.

Just tweeted mr Hazelwood in Las Vegas, a former Xheader. Asked if he had any idea of wht to do about the "Opening Database" window not closing. I will repost when I know what he has to say.
