Macbook Pro 2011 Toshiba SSD

Hello! I am just wondering whether about the stock SSD that comes when you customized your Macbook Pro from Apple is a Toshiba HG2 SSD which is a 2010 Model? I was pretty disappointed about the performance of the SSD, it seems to be on par with my Intel X25M SSD which is a year ago. I could buy a better SSD with double performance, double write and read rate with the same amount of money that i topped up to get the SSD straight from Apple.

MacBook Pro, Windows 7

The stock SSDs Apple uses are only SATA II (3Gb's). You are lucky if you get 250Mb/s. I ordered a stock 17" MBP, moved the stock HD to the optical bay and put a OCZ Vertex 3 SATA III in the main HD bay. I'm getting over 500Mb/s read AND Write speeds. I would forget ordering an Apple-installed SSD. You are buying last year's technology.

You can manually enable TRIM or use this to turn it on. This will work with any SSD on a Mac. Also, if you buy an SSD with a new SandForce 22xx controller (like an OCZ Vertex 3), I was told by their support that you don't even need TRIM turned on in a Mac. The controller has "garbage collection" and DuraWrite technology built in it and this will take care of wear leveling to keep performance like new. Apple SSDs don't even come close to this. Like I said, you are buying last year's technology. User uploaded file

Hi Mac Medic, thank you for your clarification about the Stock Apple SSD. I got to blame myself of thinking that i would prevent myself of going through the hassle of reformatting the SSD, then install Mac OS then install Bootcamp if i get the SSD straight from Apple instead. Guess i got to stick to this last year technology then 😟, am regretting now. I have seen Intel newer SSD with a double read and write rate like your OCZ Vertex 3 SSD and with better support, maybe i could consider that down the road. Thanks Again Mac Medic 🙂.

Hi AJX29, i hope i could do buy the stock HDD and swaped it with a third party SSD but it was too late. I was thinking i could save all the reformatting and installing hassle but in return i got last year's technology SSD. Did you swapped your HDD to SSD by yourself?
