Safari crashes when I try to open bookmarks on iPad 2, why?

The only thing that makes sense to me at this point is that he imported the "bad" bookmark via a sync in iTunes as you suggest.

Very early in this thread there was mention of a bad or corrupted app download giving him problems. I would like to know what the app was and if any use of Safari was involved.

Hi, I have exactly the same issue on my iPad running IOS 5.0.1. I tried all tips (clean history, cookies...) and sync'd the bookmarks (and cleaned these up laptop). Still safari crashes when hitting the bookmark button (book icon). Any further ideas?

My IPad 2 is all of the sudden doing the same thing as Tom's. Every time I hit the bookmark button in safari it instantly closes safari. I've tried the hard reset and still the same thing. Does anyone have any remedy for this?

I have exactly the same problem... does anyone know how to fix this?

In my case this started when I selected the Reading List from the bookmark menu. From then on Safari crashed as soon as I tapped the book icon.

The way I got it working again was to go to Settings iCloud and switch off bookmarks. Choose to delete bookmarks from the iPad.

Then in Safari I could use the bookmarks book icon again and get back to bookmarks from reading list.

I then put bookmarks on again in iCloud settings. This got my bookmarks back again in Safari from the cloud.

If I try to get to Reading List again then I have the same trouble again.

Regarding the crash when going to Reading List on my iPad or iPhone, I solved this by opening the reading list in Safari on my Macintosh and deleting one of the entries which was showing as unavailable. This cured the iOS book mark crashing in Safari.

The information from D. Anderson from the mesages on 1/27 and 1/28 solved my problem too!

I had 2 lonks in the reading list on my Mac that gave the message "no preview available".

Followed the instructions above and deleted these links and all was well.

I think I managed to reproduce this bug. I was looking into ways of adding bookmarklets to Safari and found one bookmarklet that allowed viewing the current page source. I didn't install (bookmarked) the bookmarklet but just used it to see the current page source. This worked fine. The address then shown was about:blank. Accidentally I then added this source/mark-up temporary page to my Reading List. After that my Safari crashed and exited whenever I clicked on the Bookmarks icon.

I have been having the same problem with my iPad crashing every time I clicked the bookmark button in Safari but thanks to D. Anderson's post, I deleted an unavailable link from my reading list on my desktop, and now everything works. Thank you so much. It had been driving me crazy for weeks.

Selecting 'Bookmarks' is crashing safari on my iPhone AND on my iPad :-( I took D. Anderson's advice, which worked, but every time I try to access Reading List the problem reoccurs! So I've deleted everything on the reading list, so there is nothing on it, let alone anything that could be corrupted, and the problem STILL occurs - Every time I try to access reading list on iPhone 4 and iPad 3, it crashes safari and prevents me from accessing the bookmarks tab at all. Please can someone help, this is driving me crazy!!!
