I received a pop-up on my iPad saying that I've won a free iPad2 from apple consumer survey. Is this legit? I didn't click on "OK" thinking it is a virus, but my screen is locked up from safari. Thanks.

While in Google search I received a pop-up on my iPad from Apple "consumersurveypanels.com" that I've won a free iPad2 and to click "OK" to claim. I'm a member of the consumer panel but think that this might be a virus. I tried to escape, but the safari "Google" screen is locked up. Does anyone know if this is a virus? Thanks.

It's not legit and it's not a virus. Try resetting your iPad by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

For your iPad... Settings > Safari > Clear History, Cookies, Cache

The Safari app cannot be deleted.

Sorry, you on an ipad, I am on a Macbook Pro.

Anyway,

For your iPad... Settings > Safari > Clear History, Cookies, Cache

close the app with the press and hold on the mutli-task bar and reboot.

Same here, originating from weeklyprizewinner.com-net.info, resulting in a dialog popup, requiring to click 'OK' while other options within Safari are blocked (using an iPad 2).

While in Safari's preference settings pop-ups are blocked, Apple should make additional efforts to block these types of annoying popup's (which freeze up Safari) as well.

Paul CB' solution above works like a charm, including cleaning Safari's history and cookies,

removing Safari from the dock of active apps (after double clicking home button, followed by holding on the safari app until minus sign appear, to be tapped on) and lastly holding home and sleep button simultaneously for 10-15 seconds (until restart).
