Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Why is there no mouse support on ipad. Needed when docked.

We are investigating if we can use the ipad for salesmanagers. But when they are in the office they need to work with papers and numbers. It's very easy then when the ipad is docked to use a mouse.

iPad, iOS 4.3.2

Mouse support would be rather useless, though, except in some specific apps since there's no global cursor in iOS and hence no way to see what you're selecting.

Hi,

I understand that the filosophy of pad/stales/tablets whatever you want to call it is to work with fingers.

It's truth and I agreed that it fast and better in several ways.

I mean, after I use a touch screen when I work in a non touch screen I start to put my fingers in the screen, because it's like a natural way to work.

What I start to discuss is, it's a little bit dummy have a iPad just for fun (see photos, and web surf) and not use it for work. In Portugal an iPad costs around 600 euros not cheap.

This means that you have to still have to computers, one for work and another to see +hotos when you don't want to see photos in your pc big screen.

the future is to leave mouse, right text with you rmine and so on. But today, we still need to have a mouse. Can you imagine to work in excel without a mouse? It's possible I know, but not that fast.

Even for IT point of view, if you want to provide support. There's several reasons to have a mouse.

iPad and other PADs can be much more than a photo album. And for sure, they will adapt or they will disapear.

I don't want to have to computers, one for work and another to play.

This is way the cloud storage a remote processing as now a big "weight" in cmputers. We must do anything from anywhere in any web access equipament.

Just to finish, at this moment without mouse I can't provide PADs to users in my company because without a mouse to use in RDP it's not that great.

So, windows will continue to rule in business area.

Ciao,

Sorry for my comments, but I'm sad about Apple not alowing a mouse in iPad at least for RDP.

Best regards,

Marco

The iPad is not yet a full replacement for a computer, nor is it advertised to be. At the same time, it's much more than just for "fun" or as a "photo album." I use it quite often at work - it is not the replacement for my computer all day, as there are things where I need the mouse input, the big screen, the ability to view flash/java websites, the ability to multitask. At the same time, it's ease of use and portability makes it an excellent tool for my work. More and more tools, for business as well as home use, will come out that take advantage of the multi-touch input of the ipad. If it does not meet your needs, then so be it. The iPad does continue to evolve, like every piece of technology - I'm not sure why you think it doesn't and won't.

I find this most amusing. If we want to be very old world and peocedural we could point out that the iPad is :Supposed to be" a content consumption device!.

Noe correct me if I am wrom but the treason why a bunch of folks, myself included, went the apple path is that is has traditionally given you the freedom to achieve things, regardless of whether it is supposed to or not. On many Apple products there are many equally valid methods of achioeving the same end, the beauty of the OS X OSI is that it gives you the freedom to do it your way, the way that is most intuitive to you.

Of course IOS has a cursor, it is however hidden from us, because for many uses it is not necassary and could well be distracting.

However Loads of people use the iPad in ways that were never envisaged when it was created (hence its brilliance). Some of those uses would benefit tremendously from having a mouse or pad controlled cursor. Yes many people do not need it, but then again many do......the issue is the freedom to choose.

Here is another example. iPad is not supposed to be pressure sensitive, it is just not that kind of product. But a number of groups of people beg to differ, so now we have one or two commercial blus two fuly funded Kickstarter projects that have created styluses (Anathame to Steve J.) that communicate pressure information to an app or API via bluetooth.

The whole point is freedom of choice tends to create greater utility thus increasing number of products sold........

It is not supposed to sounds like a line from an early IBM RedBook.

Great reply racgordon,

That's the question.

Freedom and versability. We could use iPad for fun and work.

I can easy attach a mouse in Galaxy. With that, I'm buying several Galaxy as a work tool.

Besides that, at my home, I've got a NAS server. Well, once again, iPad doesn't work because it doesn't work with nothing not apple related.

Try to see a movie that is no in MOV format.

At the end, if the Apple philosofy don't change to work well with others, it will it be the end.

Do things right, open iPad to magic mouse and to all kind of files.

Regards.

I believe the future of using a mouse + iPad will be technically similar to Wyse Pocket Cloud (although this product is about to be discontinued) or Mouse Server Pro both of which rely on a server host program that runs in the system tray of the remote system being accessed. It is frustrating reading the posts of others who don't seem to understand the desire is not to use a mouse to control the iPad OS but the desire to use the iPad as a thin client to access usually remote Windows OS's. I am having a very hard time believing Microsoft (other than the desire to sell more Surface Pro tablets) will not eventually fill this need by building in some kind of mouse server technology to accompany their brand new and far superior RDP iPad application which allows for the use of an internet capable mouse to work around the current limitations of the iPad so that Apple doesn't have to change a product that is the industry standard in tablets and users like myself and others needs are filled by the company whose product most of us desire to control remotely while using a mouse in the first place. In short, I am saying this is a Microsoft issue to solve and not an Apple issue to solve. A internet capable, remote access, programable mouse device with a host server application is not that much to ask from the company who is putting us through the Windows 8 fiasco. It would be a nice way to say thank you to all those system admins out there for not bailing ship after 25 years of using our products, then us putting you through the Metro functionality (worst major company re-work since New Coke) and continuing to use our products hoping we will be rewarded in the end. On one last note I must tell you a true story that happened to me when I called Apple about the 3rd time to ask if the mouse + iPad issue was on their radar. The Apple rep told me although they would never be able to talk about the development of future products with the public it was possible they would be developing a product "even better than the mouse". "That is great," I said "but for now all I really need is to be able to use a mouse." I am still waiting to hear about this mouse crushing product every time Apple has a press release.

Mr. Fox,

I realize my reply is a bit late based on the date of the orginal post. Based on the progress of this issue being solved it is as relevant and timely as anything else I have read on the mouse + iPad question. Please realize that it took me some time to become a fan of Apple products which I now own 2 iPhone 5s's, 1 iPhone 4, 1 iPhone ?, 1 iPad, 1 iPad Air, 2 iPad minis and an Apple TV and pretty soon a Macbook Pro. This issue has been so misinterpreted so long no progress has been made. I hope you took the time to read my post and not just calculate the time between the original post and mine. I believe I will be proven right. Please let me know your technical opinion on how this issue will be eventually solved if ever. It is obvious there is a desire for a solution to this issue and it is even more obvious the issue needs to be better defined. Thanks.

i just got my keyboard for the iPad pro. It takes this thing to the next level. But as I was doing a little work I automatically reached for the mouse. Duh! Apple wasn't thinking further than the pencil. They must have just been doodling with that idea, but we need an iPad we can actually WORK with. I wonder if they listen to these ideas. Hope you guys in the forum are heard. Keep it up.

I so agree, mouse support for the iPad Pro is needed. I use Excel a lot and touch interface + Excel = low productivity. Someone (Apple Support) responded to a similar question, "If you want mouse support you should get a Macbook." I thought that was a pretty snotty answer. I personally don't like MacBooks so stick that in your pipe and smoke it Apple Support!

Jul 26, 2016 11:51 AM in response to Timbuk2k

We aren't Apple Support. We are just users like you. If you don't like MacBooks, get a PC since the iPad isn't working for you. That is literally all we can do to help you, so calling us snotty is really not helpful. We have no power except to offer existing solutions, of which your options are: 1. Deal with it. 2. Get a MacBook. 3. Get a PC. Apple is not here so please stop ranting.

Why is there no mouse support on ipad. Needed when docked.
