Are you running Windows? I had never heard of that moviebox, but googled it and wound up on the mfr's website looking at the system requirements - they only mention various Windows versions; I did not see Mac OS listed at all.

My question is: with iMovie, iPhoto, and iDVD already installed on your Mac by default, why not give those a try?

Well the main issue is my year of macbook silver/black doesnt have a firewire so hunts guy said buy that and use the box well my comp doesnt recognize the pinnacle box or turn it on when plugged in so i ended up having to use pc side which i didnt want to do cause that side has a small partition cause i only use it to game no i am stressing more cause i cant use my lacie harddrive cause well um i dont have the pc software never thought i'd put windows on my mac lol, also since my comp doesnt have a firewire imovie and such wont work nor do they notice the pinnacle.

Sorry, but I don't understand that - you can use a hard drive with the Mac; you need to format it properly first. What does the missing PC software have to do with anything?

If I understood right: you do have a Windows portion? Please use caution: you will run out of hard drive space very quickly if the partition is small - video files take up a lot of room, especially once you start editing, etc.

So you will need to make a decision: this moviebox will not work because it is not compatible with a Mac and your Windows partition is most likely too small. Is your camera and the moviebox new? I'd seriously consider returning them because they are not compatible; you would not have a problem if you were to buy a camera that not only takes still pictures, but also video; most of them use memory cards which can easily be read by the Mac by using a USB card reader. One of my cameras is a Canon SX 130 IS - does 720p HD video; my other one is an SX1 IS (more expensive) and does 1080p HD video. Both use SDHC high speed memory cards and I just use a card reader to transfer the footage to my Mac.

And, please, your post is extremely difficult to read without any punctuation and paragraphs - can you please do that.

The Canon xl h1 is an hd camcorder, and the Pinnacle Studio Moviebox HD is a converter. The converter is new 2nd newest actually. Also yes i do have a windows partition, but like i said earlier its a bit small due to the orginal intent of it was for pc specific gamming. So this starts a new issue that i am having, aside from that i am just trying to find a way to make my converter work on the mac side without having to use windows. I have been told by professionals and seen information online but i can no longer find the online information, and to add everything works properly on windows 7 but my major editing software is either imovie (which i am used to) and FC version 7. And the grammar issue i am very tired from a long day of work/running around but i do apologize.

Well, I don't know how you can get that moviebox to work with the Mac if it's system requirements state very clearly that it needs Windows. And, even if you increased the Windows partition, it wouldn't help since you want to use iMovie and Final Cut. I do realize that your Canon is a camcorder; I had actually thought about that initially, but decided against it. I am out of ideas - unfortunately. What kind of ports does it have - I just tried to pull up the tech specs, but got a page error at the Canon site.

Um its hdv/dv, s-video, av, and a couple others. Also just because something doesnt say Mac Os X doesnt mean it will or will not work with a mac, sometimes it just means that the software isnt mac compatible. Plug and Play= Mac FTW just not right now 😢. But thank you very much for trying to assist me on this issue i guess i have to troll more sites trying to find out.

I know that too, but........ if you can't connect it, that sorta limits your choices, doesn't it.....

It is too bad that no one else has chimed in - that means either there is no way it can be done or the right person hasn't seen this thread. So, maybe someone else will chime in yet with an idea. In the meantime, I have another idea for you: buy another Mac with a firewire port 😉
