when I try to update my apps on the ipad the box that pops up has the wrong apple ID in it and I can not change it no matter what I do.  I have re set the info in the settings and when viewed there the info is correct.  When I get into the app store I still get the wrong ID no matter what I do... anyone have any suggestions

To snodsFC1978,

This is info on Find my iPhone which may be on he iPad.   It must be on to work, after two months that is not likely.

Your password can't be different if the Apple ID (which is your email) is the same .  Your Apple ID and password are tied to your iTunes account, not the device.  If you changed your password, it is changed for all.  This has nothing to do with a passcode lock which you put on a device.

I know exactly what you are talking about!

My problem is very similar. No matter what I try, it keeps asking me for the old account, unless I reinstall the app.

But even the reinstalled apps keep asking for the old account for an update.

Did you figure out where this old account is stored?

Chris, I tried your solution but it did not work for me.  I have changed my email address/sign-in at the Apple site and in ITunes both but my IPhone and IPad will not pick up the new Apple ID and there is no way to change it anywhere.  When I go into Settings, Store, and touch the Apple ID which has my old email address/sign-in still, there is nothing that comes up where I can edit it.  A screen comes up with my Apple ID at the top (not changeable) with with four options as follows:  1. View Apple ID (all that does is once again take me to somewhere that once again wants my Apple ID password and it has my old email address/sign-in that cannot be changed).  2.  Sign Out  3.  IForgot (for a password that you forgot)  and 4. Cancel.

In ITune when I click on Sign In it will bring up a screen where both the User Name and Password are blank and I can fill it in with my correct information.  But I simply cannot get my IPhone and IPad changed and, therefore, cannot get into ITunes at all on either device.  This is really getting frustrating.  I contacted ITunes Support and they could not figure it out either and advised me to go to technical support which I will not do because I will not pay for technical support.  Any other suggestions?

I have the same problem on my Iphone 4. I have tried everything you have and called Apple Care, e-mailed itunes, and gone to an Apple store. Nobody has been able to help!!

When an app is purchased/downloaded from the store it is associated to an Apple ID. Whenever an update is available for that app the authentication details for that Apple ID are required.

You can get this problem if you share an iTunes library with someone but have different Apple IDs, as there can only be one copy of an app in the library. It can also occur for other reasons.

What you need to do is delete the app and repurchase/redownload it from the App Store with the correct Apple ID.

I am having the same problem... in my settings, my "store" ID says one things, and when I go to the App Sotre application to update, another apple ID is there, and I cannot get rid of it.

Have you tried deleting the app and redownloading it with the Apple ID you want associated with it?

Based on your name here it sounds like you could be sharing an iTunes library with someone (sean and nikki). You can only have one copy of an app in an iTunes library. If you both sync to the same iTunes library and you both have an Apple ID you use for downloading/purchasing apps you are going to get apps that when you update will require the other person's Apple ID. The only way around it is to have separate iTunes libraries. It's easier to just live with your partner's Apple ID on some apps.

    Try contacting iTunes Billing:

Click: iTunes Store Account & Billing / Billing Inquiries / Email Us

    In iTunes on the iPad...

Tap Featured at the bottom of the screen.

Scroll to the bottom and tap the account name then Sign out.

Tap Sign in and use the account you want.

    Then tap Updates.

I had the same problem on my iPhone - different Apple id than in my iTunes account and wasn't able to purchase apps using my phone.  I figured it out on my own - what you need to do is open the App Store on your iPhone. When the 'Categories' page comes up, scroll all the way down and tap on 'Apple ID' at the bottom of the screen. Then tap on 'View Apple ID' and then 'Edit'.  You can then delete the old ID and put your correct one in.  Hope this helps - it worked for me.

Ha that was all I needed to do! Thanks so much idk why I didn't think of that.

Or go to Settings > Store, tap the account name then sign in with the correct account.

HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. Made an error on my apple id so i cant update. All you need to do is type in the wrong passcode until you are prompted for a security question or the option of reseting your password. I chose the security option and editted my passcode to match the one i us. ( couldnt change apple id through) hope it works for u :).

None of these "solutions" address the problem and none of them fix them problem. The only reason I have 2 apple IDs is poor planning by Apple. Mobile Me users were assigned a ID, despite the fact that I already had an Apple ID. Now the ID has followed me to iCloud and I can't get rid of it. When I set up iCloud I attepted to use my original Apple ID but was disallowed due to it "already being in use" me of course, but no matter. Now I am stuck with 2 IDs. Apple has confirmed this.

To update apps, you must sign in with the original ID or repurchase it. Why would I do this? I purchased it using my ID and used it on only one device. To sync everything though I must use my ID. (Remember-it can't be changed to your original ID) If you sign in with the ID your account shows that you have made no purchases and therefore you have nothing to update. If you try to install the app using the new ID it tries to charge you money again. And of course you constantly have sync issues because your phone and your computer are signed in using separate Apple IDs.

Nice going Apple. Way to simplify my life.
