iMac 2011 27inch i7 screen flicker dark left side

I made this subject like this so people can easily find this thread and comment.

Exactly as it says, my iMac 2011 27inch i7 purchased in Feb this year,

about 2 weeks ago the screen started to flicker,

but now the bottom left side of the screen is darker than the rest of the screen, sometimes it will start to flicker again and then (when the room is quite) I hear a noise like a florescent bulb illuminating and the screen comes back to its correct even illumination for a while and then it can happen again any time.

I spoke to Apple today and of course they said bring it in and we will have a look at it and if it needs repair it could take upto 10days, which i don't like the idea of.

I know there are plenty of posts on this subject but i can't see any recent ones that can answer my 3 questions:-

1. Has anyone seen this problem this year ?

2. How long did Apple Store take to repair the fault ?

3. What was the actual failure, i'm guessing it would either be the display or the graphics card ?

Cheers..

I had experienced the same thing described here: A few months out of warranty, my 2010 27 iMAC screen went dark on the left side. I am so very disappointed that Apple did not stand by this product and help us all out. That said, fortunately American Express extended a warranty coverage to this machine and they footed the bill for the repair. I was sooooo happy until this morning—I started to work and saw that my screen is starting to flicker AGAIN. Shame on you, Apple. Shame, shame, shame.

I received an email about your problem. West_D

You have been dead lucky. Apple will not admit that it is a Hardware Fault at manufacture.

The 3 main faults are- 1. Yellow tint

2. Flickering Screen

3. Dark patches

I have had this problem for 3yrs now (Mine Dark Patches) I have had to get an Advocate to help me,because this

is making my nerves really bad now. The Advocate is acting on my behalf.

Earlier this year Apple replaced the faulty one with a brand new iMac Guess what YES! this one is faulty too.

It was sent away and the LCD Screen was replaced, and i just waiting for the fault to appear. It`s the 19th July now,but the fault will come back around October.

There is evan a site dedicated to these Faults called Faulty Screens, you should go there and subscribe.

You will be amazed how big the problem is. It mention`s all the countries.

The Italian aurthorities have even shut the Apple stores for one day,and they have find them, about the Warranty Issue has well. We can`t do a thing until Apple admits there is a hardware Fault.

My issue started shortly after the warranty.

Really disappointed in Apple! Any reputable company will honor a free repair due to their poorly engineered products. Not Apple! Just another way this greedy company will nickle and dime their consumers. They get paid when you pay out of pocket to have "THIER" faulty equipment repaired or by you purchasing a "VERY NECESSARY" extended warranty plan. Greedy ********!

I'm about to do the same thing because I don't wanna pay ****. Im also ****** because the Mac tech guy didn't even bother checking the connections. I'm glad I saw this before I wasted 1000$ on nothing. just wanted to know if it will work on my iMac 21.5 inch 2009 model. Haven't taken it apart yet. Also can I have your email because I've never soldered anything before and don't wanna **** my Mac up! Hahah appreciate this post alot! Looking forward to hearing from you.

It should work on a 21.5 iMac, the screen is lighted by LEDs also so, the connectors must the same but i could be placed elsewhere.

You don't need to solder if you follow Enejus post of realigning the connector, but you must disassemble the screen completely which for me is harder than just soldering as i did 😝.

My email:-------------- (Sorry to post this way but i don't want to be an easy prey for spammers 😝).
