iMac 2011 27inch i7 screen flicker dark left side

it's not software. Very simply, it's the LED lights inside the L.G. display panel which is the display panel in your Mac.

You can actually simply slip the glass screen off, and then tap on the area (see the various photos above) and you'll see it flicker - if you're lucky it might even come good by squeezing it etc.

If they claimed they "couldn't see the problem" you just have to scream at them and abuse them. Hope it helps!

I have had exactly the same problem with my imac 27 inch i3 purchased new in November 2010, with these display problems starting 5 months after purchase. Entire left half (although more so at bottom left) of my screen suddenly becomes darker, usually after a few seconds of display flickering. I have not yet contacted Apple but will do so before warranty period is up. Did you have your problem resolved and find out what it was due to?

And another one! This one bought in February this year - I think its a ' mid-2010 ' version so it seems a problem. Back to Apple with it I guess - its not very good is it?

I brought my iMac to an Apple Store about a week before the end of my 1 year warranty period. The display was replaced free of charge and I was able to pick up within 1 day so was very satisfied. The display works well again. Hopefully won't run into the same problem; I bought AppleCare just in case to be covered for another 2 years.

I just had the same problem occur. Bought the 27" iMac in June 2011. It's been flickering for a few weeks, the left side of screen just went partially dark. Seems like a common issue. Hopefully it will be replaced as should still be under warranty.

I had the 27" display replaced last year. Took four days. BTW, if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine.

My 27" iMac, bought March 2011, has just developed an intermittent screen flicker, and occasional reduced screen brightness. Very disappointing and annoying.

A newish problem after purchase, may well justify requesting compensation under the UK 'Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994', I believe.

I have had the same flickering issue, intermittent for months with occassional full black-outs, and now the monitor has a full dark patch (basically making this computer unusable). After speaking with Apple Support, I now have to lug in the computer for unknown repair, I am not happy!

Does Apple expect you to just stop working and shut down your business for four days? Apple should be more communicative with their customers (I've been an Mac user/purchaser since 1991) about what the problems and solutions are.

You didn't provide any details, but there are only users here, so we can't tell you what Apple expects. That's for you to determine.

Thanks Baltwo, but unfortunately after speaking with a rude Apple support rep, the only option for me is to lug the machine over for a repair.

Rude? I've not had that experience. I'd call back and ask to speak to a supervisor, then report the poor behavior.

I'm having the same screen flicker problem with my mid-2011 i7 27 inch iMac. It began about a month ago with just a very occasional flicker. Now it's four or five times a day at least but the left side hasn't gone darker yet. Guess I'll have to take it in to the nearest Apple store.

I've also noticed that the overall brightness at the middle settings is now considerably darker than when I first got it. I've had to boost it to about 75% instead of just over half. 100% looks the same as when it was new. Strange!

Sounds like I have the same issues as everyone here, I purchased the i5 27" this past spring, it was

supposedly the first batch of the updated versions of 2011, it too has been flickering the past few weeks, the

entire screen would dim slightly then brighten back up, while using it this evening the entire LEFT half of the

screen went dim and hasn't returned to full brightness.

Also about the same time the flickering started , I noticed that shortly after I put my monitor to sleep it would turn itself back on

Update: OK, now my left side of the screen is also going dark when it flickers, same as everyone else.
