YouTube Fullscreen Choppy Playback with mid 2011 iMac

Hello,

I have a BTO 27" iMac with 3.4 GHz i7 and the 6970M 2GB graphics card. Everything else is stock. The problem I'm having is that with every YouTube video at any quality (240p, 360p, 480p, 720p, 1080p) played in fullscreen, the playback is choppy. It's not my internet connection because I've even let the video load completely. Also when I exit fullscreen, it's perfectly smooth. This is very surprising to me. However, with Vimeo and other flash videos at fullscreen the playback is nice and smooth. Has anyone else experienced this? What do you recommend? In the mean time I've been doing the scroll to zoom to fullscreen videos.

I had exactly the same problem. Yes! HTML5 is the way to go. I googled Safari HTML5 and found a Youtube5 plugin that works like charm! You access the resolution by clicking the "i" ( info) button in the top right of the player window. Good luck!

I have the same issue on my 3.1GHz i5 iMac. The video is perfect when small, but choppy when fulscreen. This is with anything flash, youtube, iplayer etc. I've updated to the latest flash player and i use safari.

I have fixed my problem; basically had to uninstall and manually delete anything adobe-related, repaired disk permissions, reinstalled flash player, restarted, works! I had loads of old application files moved over from my old mac when I migrated, so I've been doing a clean up.

I found that when I created another user account and logged into it, flash player was working perfectly. I'm really pleased it works really well now. I removed all the adobe files in ~/library, but if you have other adobe apps I suppose you could just remove the flash related files. I hope it works for you.

SUCCESS! Finally! After all these months of command-scrolling to zoom in I finally have it running smooth. I think what really did it was I opened up ~/Library (User library), typed "flash" in the search box, clicked "library" so it would search only there, then deleted the two "Flash Player" folders. One was cache and another was preferences. I did do the uninstall and reinstall too but I'm guessing this was the really fix.

Deleting the "Flash Player" folders [there were 3 in my user library] worked for me! Thank you for the tip!

Hiya!

I've recently upgraded to Lion 10.7.2 from 10.6.8 and instantly experienced this phenomanon. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling Flash Player (BTW there is no ~/library folder anymore in Lion, not that I could find anyway) with absolutely no success.

HOWEVER!

What fixed the problem for me was a simple Permissions repair. absolutely fixed it. as suggested before, i believe this is the actual fix.

Repair (NOT VERIFY!) your Permissions!

Great that permissions repair worked for you. Also you can still access the library folder as I and other people in the post have been able to. It's just hidden.

You can remove those files by doing this:

Open Systems Preferences...

Click on the Flash logo in Others...

Click on the Advance tab...

Browsing Data and Settings...

Click on the Delete All button...

Also... If you need to uninstall Flash you can use Adobe Flash un-installer:

It is best to uninstall Flash before doing a Flash update.

Doesn't look like it was a permanent fix either, only temporary... so I'm back to square ONE. this is beginning to get ridiculous.

I've removed Flash using the uninstaller, I've deleted the data as suggested... and i'm still getting jumpy video on fullscreen... i don't know what else to do here... i'm thinking it's NOT a flash player problem.
