Windows Boot camp drivers won't install

So I'm trying to put windows on my mac again, for the fifth time since windows won't let me activate it anymore. Everything goes fine and it installs and I put the Mac os x install disc 1 in to install the drivers. It loads up and goes through the process of installing the drivers. Once its down it asks me to restart the computer which I do. Once I get in however, none of the drivers are installed like nothing ever happened. I can tell because I can't get internet and the trackpad won't work properly. The boot camp faq shows up and another window to update something shows up but it need the internet to work. I go and try to repair the drivers and it runs its course, restarts and still nothing! No drivers. I've tried deleting the drivers and reinstalling them, removing the partition and reinstalling but nothing is working. I've gotten the drivers just fine before but now they just won't install. I've updated my mac from 10.6.4 to 10.6.7 so can that be the problem? Its the only thing I did different.

You need Mac OS X 10.6.x DVD with Boot Camp 3.0.

then you can upgrade to 3.1 and 3.2.

3.0+ is needed for Windows 7

2.x was from Leopard and support for older XP/Vista

After being puzzled with what people were writing and all obvious it seemed to be to them,

I figured out what to do:

- Launch Boot Camp Assistant

- When asked whether you have the Install Discs or want to download the Windows support files,

choose DOWNLOAD i.e the first option

- When asked where to write the files, choose whether you want to burn them to a CD/DVD or store it

on a different volume (like a USB key, or an external hard drive).

- Then go to the Windows side (for me it means to launch Parallels and start my virtual machine)

and get it to read your CD, USB key or wherever you've burned the files

- Navigate through the files on that CD or USB key, I believe into the directory called Bootcamp

and double-click on the files corresponding to each driver you want to install; if your Windows is 64-bit

you have to go one level deeper in the Bootcamp directory, I think the subdirectory is called x64

- If desired, you can then download updates 3.1 and 3.2 and apply them to your new Bootcamp nstallation

Thanks for the pointer about the Parallels forum.

And, silly me, I noticed last night that the download is in every point identical to the install disk that came with my iMac. Moreover although the installer says that it was successful, the drivers did not actually take effect and I still have the same problem as before.

And there does not seem to be a way to edit or remove my previous post.

I found out that when you install Windows 7 on the Bootcamp partition, there is

an item called "Drive Options" or something like this that you can select that

will give you the chance to format the partition. Then everything will work,

i.e. the installation itself and the driver installation. For the latter, you need

to go in the Bootcamp folder on the disk and double-click on Setup.
