Best iPad 2 case for kids

I am thinking of getting an iPad 2 for my 4 year old. I'd like some feedback on what's the best case for it. I realize that there isn't going to be the greatest case out there and that I really should invest on getting it insured. At first I was thinking of getting ht new iPad Defender Series case for the new iPad 2 but I haven't heard great reviews on it. So I'm hoping I could get feedback here about what's a good one to get.

We have tried two diferent cases for our little girl. A lighteight silicone case worked really well:

But we found this instead and eally love the handle and convertible stand. The EVA foam offeres great protection.

The Survivor is by far the most durable and kid tough. It's expensive, but definitely worth it!

Thanks for this. A comment on amazon.com in regard to the Survivor's use by adults is also impressive:

"Tested and the results match what the manufacturer and others state. This case is rock solid. Mounted on a sailboat for 500nm, rain, sun, T-Storms, drops, kicks and it still looks great. The ports seal up nice and tight. It was great to be able to navigate using this. Just had to wipe the screen (protector that is) to get the rain off and keep going." ( Source)

My wife and I bought an iPad 2 for my son Taylor who has special needs.

We researched many different cases, based on cost and specs we chose the Griffin Survivor Extreme Duty Case.

It was independently tested and certified to the “MIL-STD-810F” standards. The document that outlines this comprehensive standard is available online via any Google Search.

The Griffin Survivor Extreme Duty Case is available on Amazon for under $40. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SPVZKW/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title)

As soon as the iPad 2 was out of the box it went into the Griffin Survivor Extreme Duty Case. Installation was very easy.

iPad vs. 18 Month Old Boy

In between physical therapy sessions my wife placed the new iPad on our coffee table. We were in the middle of a timed physical therapy when our 18 month old son spotted the iPad on the coffee table.

We watched him wander over to the coffee table. He picked up the iPad, my wife was horrified. I told her it was ok. I had done the research on the case so I wasn’t experiencing the same level of fear as my wife. At this point we didn’t have much choice but to observe the actions of our 18 month old adventurer.

He tossed it on our couch, then proceeded to climb on to the couch. While awaiting our reaction while he played with the iPad. He then held it over his head as if he was going to throw it. Then he threw it across the room. It slammed against the wooden stairway door frame, then landed on the solid wood floor from about a 5 foot height.

Looking pleased with himself, our 18 month old walked over to the iPad picked it up and went back to playing the bubble game we downloaded.

Once the physical therapy was complete I checked the iPad, and there was no damage to the case or iPad. That was 3 months ago.

Since then it’s had water spilled on it, it’s been dropped countless times. It continues to function as well as the day we unpacked it from the box and turned it on for the first time.

Thanks to the Griffin Survivor Duty Case.

So selfishly I'm getting a cover for myself because I just don't want to have the EXTREMELY ANGRY feelings if I came downstairs and saw my ipad smashed to bits. Kids will be kids.....espcially if they have some extra challenges. (Parents of autistic kids are the true heros in this world....I mean that!) So am I a bad person that I'm overly protective of shiny electronics? Perhaps......but what makes me feel better is at least making the protective covers as cute as freakin possible! The two cutest cases I've found.....drum roll please.....

So HOW CUTE IS THAT THING!!! You just want to hug it!

The Kid and school tough case market seems to have come a long way since the early days of 2008.

We just outfitted our classrooms with 200 iPad AIrs, and after much testing, we settled on the TUFFKASE range. We especially liked the Silicone iPad AIR Case. We watched the videos on damaged cases on their site, and quickly ordered them.

They were on Amazon for $20, but we got a bulk deal, and order them direct from the tuffkase.com site.
I found out about them through the amazon reviews : goo.gl/ifXtbD

The Pink KaysCase is my little diva's favorite. I love how many educational apps available for my girls and now I don't have to stress about them dropping the ipad! Thanks for the tips eveyone!

Both of these are so cute! I had an ipad and won another at work, so now we have two ipads for the kids. I have two girls and I bought one for each of them. Thanks for sharing!

Shouldn't four year olds be outside having fun with other kids? They'll get addicted to this and never want to go outside or play with friends if you do this, most likely.

Only if a parent lets a child have unfettered access to the iPad all the time. There are a lot of wonderful educational apps for pre-primary children, and it would be a shame to deny them to a child out of fear that the child will "never" go outside or play with friends.

Overall I am happy with the Trident.

Pros: I like that it is thin enough so that the iPad fits in a neoprene case for traveling without having to remove the Trident case as you would have to with the iGuy. It also comes with a screen protector for the front. Luckily my son has not dropped it yet, but it seems sturdy.

Cons: The front edge crinkles a bit. (I tried to post a picture but I am not able to.) This is annoying to me, but it does not impact the performance of the case. The stand is very flimsy. I do not trust it to actually hold the iPad up. I usually prop it up with a pillow instead.

Good Luck!

Thank you all SO much! My 2 1/2 y.o. uses my iPad and I've been paranoid about her dropping it! I was familiar with the Otterbox series, since I have a Defender case for my iPhone 4, but was not familiar with the Trident Kraken! I think this will be a perfect fit for her, especially since she's often frustrated because of accidental screen swipes, or from where she holds the screen, and it's slightly extended handles seem to be the perfect solution. I also found it on Amazon for $27! Nice!

I'd also like to add to @HuskieN, there are 24 hours in a day and if the other parents here are like me, our children get PLENTY of outside play time, as well as other extra-curricular activities such as dance and music class, however, there are times when she needs to sit still, and I'd much rather she play with the eLearning's Spanish flash cards, or Kids Manadarin language matching game than turn what should be a 30 min affair into a 2 hour one.

We're raising well-rounded children, ones who are physically, emotionally, spiritually, socially, and technologically experienced, so don't knock others parenting tacticts unless you know and understand the fullness of them.
