The answer, as Jolly Giant so succinctly put it, is NO. Here's what the HBO GO app says about AirPlay in an FAQ:

"HBO requires a level of content protection that is not currently supported by Airplay/Apple TV. We hope to offer this capability in the future."

In other words, HBO doesn't want people copying "their" movies and shows, so they haven't enabled video streaming over AirPlay. All you get is audio, no video. Probably because audio streaming is "on" by default in Apple's Software Development Kit ("SDK"), but video streaming is "off".

That's is ridicolus, who would copy a show with AirPlay when a DVR can do it way better and easier and allowed?

Heck you can copy HBO and retransmit it to your 3G phone or iPad via 3G or WI FI with Elgato eyetv HD. HBO along with tons of other premium channels are copied all the time and retransmitted via slingboxes,VNC conections all kinds of ways. If that is there excuse then they are full of it.

We are the innocent bystanders of the larger media battle between providers like HBO, Netflix, Hulu+, etc. that are all trying to protect their turf. ATV does do Netflix, although recently Netflix seems to be imploding. I dropped HBO from my cable package because of the Air Play issue, among others. I would like to see ATV offer a menu of items so that the user could pick and choose what services they wanted, and would be willing to pay for. As long as I'm asking, how about Amazon Prime?

I agree ike39,I wish AppleTV would allow more choices in who we could stream with, personally I think NetFlix string of errors plus the splitting and renaming of the company is pretty much setting itself for a fire sale. The NetFlix stock has tumbled plus all the complaints reminds me of what Blockbuster went thru. I would not be surprised if Amazon or even Apple itself would buy out NetFlix. NetFlix certainly has no direction other than down and I see nothing in the horizon to turn that around.

The problem is the tech dinosaur "DVD" is still the bread and butter money maker for them. Streaming is getting better but greed is keeping it from blooming. NetFlix had the price increase because the cost to stream in this case from STARS was ridicoulus. Streaming content in general is not very good from neither NetFlix nor Amazon prime.

Looking at NetFlix "New Arrivals" right now.

OMG!

Ironclad

Lodes Kitchen

The Flinstones

Saw III

Starz Play is a little better;

Toy Story 3

Secretariat

Weird Sciecnce

Father Of The Bride.

But Starz play is going bye bye. NetFlix got a little boost by signing a deal with Dreamworks, but that is still 2 years away. I really see DVD rentals hanging on for at least 5 more years at current levels. In general I am very happy with my AppleTV, I am not happy with the issues it so frequently has with NetFlix, and only wish it had more selections for streaming.

Maybe Oct 4 we get an announcment.

I tried to watch CBs.com and only got the audio on my tv, I had the picture on the ipad. This is why I purchased apple tv so my 70 year old mom could watch the pilot show or lost episodes that interest her.

Netflix did not stream for her either.

So I can only get video if the show is on my computer..?.. Well I already had that so I spent the money for apple tv and did not get any real use from it.

I put my faith in apple and its sales people who told me it was created for the use I intended. I hope apple fixes this issue, I am an apple household and am trying to get my mom on board with the ipad2. This has however slowed my apple purchases down, I research and if I cannot find the answers I will not buy until I do.
