Blacklist Stolen iPad?

Hello,

My friend's iPad has been stolen. Is it possible to provide the serial number to Apple so that the device can be blacklisted, and the scrote who stole it cannot use it?

Thanks, Chris.

Hi, I'm a little pussled on why Apple can not help track a lost or stolen device when you've signed up to mobileme. Even if the device is reset, the person using it would have to register the device to its own account and the account reads the devices' serial number. With this serial number active on the network, mobile me should be able to recognize it.

I'm sure there would be issues when the person using the device bought it via e-bay or the like, but that would be a different discussion.

If you report your device lost or stolen with the serial number Apple only needs to help the user find its device the the user would go to the police stating that they have found the device location and the police would be involved. Right? or am I just asking too much?

It's pretty well documented that Apple will respond to requests from law enforcement within local laws. That they are not willing on a personal request to become involved with a purported theft is not surprising however. Aside from the logistics, how are they to know that such a report is in fact true?

Purely from a liability standpoint, I don't blame them at all.
