Blacklist Stolen iPad?
Hello,
My friend's iPad has been stolen. Is it possible to provide the serial number to Apple so that the device can be blacklisted, and the scrote who stole it cannot use it?
Thanks, Chris.

Hi, I'm a little pussled on why Apple can not help track a lost or stolen device when you've signed up to mobileme. Even if the device is reset, the person using it would have to register the device to its own account and the account reads the devices' serial number. With this serial number active on the network, mobile me should be able to recognize it.
I'm sure there would be issues when the person using the device bought it via e-bay or the like, but that would be a different discussion.
If you report your device lost or stolen with the serial number Apple only needs to help the user find its device the the user would go to the police stating that they have found the device location and the police would be involved. Right? or am I just asking too much?
It's pretty well documented that Apple will respond to requests from law enforcement within local laws. That they are not willing on a personal request to become involved with a purported theft is not surprising however. Aside from the logistics, how are they to know that such a report is in fact true?
Purely from a liability standpoint, I don't blame them at all.
i am Way behind the curve here. I started reading this to find out why my iPad tells me it is blacklisted on a screen that checks proxies, internet connection, and then it will turn around and go ahead and work. For those of you who are going to think this – I bought it in a sealed box belongs to me.
Not exactly. After my iPad was stolen, I was unsuccessful in finding it, but did erase it.
What that means (doesn't it?) is that, as long I don't remove it from my account, it's unusable except for spare parts.
Help out us technophobes, por favor.
Apple has a feedback form, perhaps that's a great place to make your suggestion. They don't monitor these boards so they'll never see your idea here.

Quite understandable. I would be devastated, for a while at least.
Best of luck.
I was just wondering how you would go about tracking you missing iPad from another computer.
WOuld you just go onto this site using a pc. And what would you have to do.?
Sign on to icloud.com and open Find my phone. If you have an IP or an iPad, sign in to the Find my phone app.
Of course, you have to prevously registered the iPad with this software.
Thank you Macaby, very helpful.
they can blacklist devices now YAY
You need to start your own discussion. The problem you describe is not related to this discussion, and this discussion is from 2012 and is completely outdated anyway.
