My itunes Apple ID is my email address. I am considering changing my internet provider so my email address will change. What happens about my Apple ID? Is it chnaged automatically or do I have to reapply or do i get shut out or what.....?

Why would your email address change because you change ISP's? Do you have a MobileMe account?
My ISP is Comcast but I don't have to use my Comcast email address just because they are my ISP.

That is so, but some people do use it and that may apply here.
Your Apple ID is a string of text characters that you choose. The fact that you used your email address has no bearing on your actual email address. You can continue to use your current Apple ID after you change your email address. Just remember to edit your Apple account to provide your new email address. It may be confusing but it will work fine.

To verify your email address, you should receive an email at the email address you have listed here -> Apple - My Apple ID
The origninal apple ID is suggested to be updated at My Apple ID. The process does not permit the change of the orginal ID. Only asks to change primary with additional. If the service provider no longer exists which is what has happened and the email address does not exist - I am confused. However, I gather from the comments that the orignal email used as an Apple ID is just a string of characters. Therefore, supplying a current primary email results in the confirmation notices I get. Obviously, that which has been purchased under the original apple ID is forever recognised. So.. what happens if I just start a new account that reflects my new email as my apple ID. Do I loose the old info or I am guessing I just have multiple accounts.
I find it confusing that apple suggest to change your ID but there is no functionality to do this, only add a new primary email account.
can anyone explain - I only have my learner plates on getting around this technology.

Yes it does.
Log into -> https://appleid.apple.com
Under Manage your Name, ID, and Email Addresses, and change this -> Apple ID and Primary Email Address.
This will be your new AppleID.
So.. what happens if I just start a new account that reflects my new email as my apple ID.
There's no need to do this.
Any purchases are under the old account and cannot be cahnged.
Just update your account.
