I cant open my xib file. I always get assertion error and xcode crashes.. i use xcode4 and got it from the app store..Any help??
Its been about 3 weeks now that i have battled with this.. I have unistalled and installed..Done all sorta formats but still the xib crashed xcode when i click on it

Start by trying to narrow down the problem. First, create a new iOS application project and see if selecting the xib file from the project navigator crashes Xcode. If Xcode doesn't crash, that is evidence there was something wrong with the xib file.
If Xcode crashes when selecting a xib file on a new iOS project, try adding an application xib file to the project by choosing File > New > New File. The application xib file is in the User Interface section of the new file assistant. Select the newly created xib file to see whether or not it crashes. If Xcode doesn't crash, that is evidence there is something wrong with the xib file that is part of Apple's Xcode project templates.
If Xcode crashes when adding a xib file to your project, create a Mac Cocoa application project. Select the xib file to see if it crashes Xcode. If Xcode doesn't crash, that is evidence that something is wrong with your iOS SDK installation.
If Xcode is still crashing, quit Xcode, trash Xcode's preferences file, and restart Xcode. The Xcode preferences file is located in the following directory:
/Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences
If trashing the preferences file doesn't stop the crashing, reinstall Xcode.
Hello, Thanks sooooo much.. I have managed to narrow down the problem and with your specifications, the iOS SDK has a problem as the mac xib file is working just fine but not when i try the iOS..So whats the next step, how do i fix it?

Does that mean that i dont even have the SDK?? IF so how did thishappen because ibought code from the app store. Nevertheless, how do i fix it?
You have the iOS SDK. If you didn't, you wouldn't be able to create an iPhone application project. The iPhone SDKs are located in /Developer/Platforms, assuming Developer is where you installed Xcode.
You should reinstall the iOS SDK. I didn't buy Xcode from the Mac App Store so I don't know if there are any differences between the App Store version and the one from the iPhone developer program, but run the Xcode installer again. When you get to the custom install section, there is an Essentials checkbox that is grayed out. Click the disclosure triangle next to the checkbox and select the iOS SDK checkbox.
after the aggreement, it just asks for my password and when i input it, it begins installation. How do i then get to the custom install area?
Apparently the App Store version has a different installer that doesn't let you customize what parts are installed. Install Xcode again.
Just did that. Installed it over it and tried but no avail..i uninstalled and re-installed but still the same problem
The only other thing I can suggest is to create another user account and try installing Xcode on that account.
when you say user account, what exactly is that..another apple account?
If you look at the screenshot you linked to earlier in this thread, under Places there are three entries: Desktop, fayimora, and Applications. Fayimora is the user account on your Mac. Create another user account on your Mac. Open System Preferences to create another account.
No change...Still crashing..This ain't fir at al. It isin't even encouraging me to jon the developer program cause i cant waste such amount as am just a student and i fend for myself..

I'm out of ideas. You could try asking on Apple's Xcode mailing list. Apple's engineers answer questions on the mailing list. They don't answer questions on this forum.

Did you use Applications>Utilities>Console to see if there are any other diag messages around the time Xcode crashes? What version of Snow Leopard are you at?
