New Airport express user needs some help on setup. Thanks

Hi all

I just bought a airport express and need some help, I have a netgear GT router which has a network cable running downstairs to my airport express which the cable is plugged into.

I want to turn on the wifi in the airport express as I am just out of range with my netgear to connect on my iPad.

So what do I need to do to leave both wifi options on which are both cabled together with a network cable so that my iPad can use both wifis

And can I also make it so devices can only connect with a mac code as I use these. For more security.

the only devices i have connect to my system is a iphone 3gs and ipad 2 so i dont think these devices are 802.11b i i am sure these support g well the ipad 2 supports N but not to sure about the 3gs

Q1 as the airport only has N with b & G compat i would leave it at that but my router i would change to g only ?.

Q2 i know the ipad 2 supports 2.4ghz but does it support 5ghz ?

Q3 is n 5ghz even better than 2.4ghz n ?

Q4 if all devices supported n 2.4ghz would that be the best option to select as well and not select compat

A1 Depends on what your other router is capable of. If it doesn't support "n," then yes, switch it to "g only."

A2 Check out Apple Support Techincal Specifications

A3 Better as far as bandwidth performance; worse as far as range.

so i should see a speed bost if only selecting g as i might of been droping down to b at some point

sorry last question so if next door has a wifi g set to channel 11 and i have a wifi n set to channel 11 can they interfere or would i need to change to %ghz to stop that.

Yes, since as you suspect, any "b" client would pose a performance penalty on the wireless network in order to "slow down" the communications to allow the "b" to "talk."

No problems ...

It would really depend on how much the neighbor's Wi-Fi network may be encourching on yours ... but to play it safe, I would always recommend using a channel at least 3-5 from that of your closest neighbors is possible.

Is there a program on windows that let's you scan other people's channel settings so that u know what there using
