No, there is no way to do this at the moment.
Apple has yet to provide an acceptable reply (we can't do it - period as the first reply) and no reply to any follow up inquiries.
Along the same lines as the rest of the comments, I am very frustrated by not being able to remove items from the AppStore "Purchased" list when:
1) - If you DID NOT purchase an item, but rather tried or started to try an eval copy of a product and then decided you don't want anything to do with it - your stuck with in the queue wanting to be installed.
2) - You purchased a product (such as Final Cut Pro X) and discovered it NO LONGER meets your needs since modules such as DVD PRO are missing. You receive a credit from Apple, but the product still shows in the "Purchased" queue waiting for you to "Install" - just waiting for you to accidentally install I guess so you can get charged again.
Most frustrating, some of the apps (such as FCP) DO NOT provide an uninstall feature so you can remove from your PC. Deleting the app itself DOES NOT get rid of all the other files.
I wiped my system clean and did a fresh OS install, and FCP still shows waiting to be installed along with 3 other apps I DID NOT and DO NOT want to install.
THIS makes me NOT purchase anything else from the AppStore (other than MAC OS since I have no choice) and purchase ONLY directly from the vendor or not at all.
URG!!!!

You do realize this a User-To-User forum? No one here is from Apple so you will not receive a reply from them.
Go to their website and click on the feedback link to speak to them.
"Apple has yet to provide an acceptable reply"
they will not provide a reply at all here. This is a user forum. Apple will not resopond here.
The answer is that you cannot delete the history. It is a history of all purchases.
Leave feedback for Apple: http://www.apple.com/feedback
Reasons to delete from the history:
1. Some times I don't want to see an app I downloaded again because I do not use it and never will again.
2. On other times, I tried a free version of a game (lite), then I buy the full version. Actually, I get the lite version on the history for ever. I need to remove it to be sure that it will not automatically reinstall it on my devices.
3. like some said, hide adult stuff or anything else you don't want to be in the history.
APPLE! dont you listen to your users??? We want the option to delete our app history!
This is a user to user forum. Apple does not read it or respond to it. To get Apple's attention use the Feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback
This is a user forum! It's a read-only history, it is not taking up any space or data.
If you don't intend to use said app again then just ignore it. There is no way it will automatically reinstall, you would have to reload it to have it on your device again.
If you have feedback i.e. hiding adult content, you can do as provided above.
Let's put it like this. I have a phone app that I can get minutes for free by downloading diff apps. A good number of them are dating apps. Don't want my girl seeing that. Or like one guy wrote, when others have his phone they shouldn't have the freedom to see what apps he had. That takes it a bit too far. Like I said. We should have the OPTION to delete what we want.
Else we can decide with our dollars. Apple has the right to listen to consumers especially since Google allows users to delete a number of things from history. I like my iPhone but will go to android if needs be.
Perhaps you didn't read my post. I specifically said to direct feedback of that nature directly to apple. This is a user forum.
apple + listen to customers = 2 different things. I have some of their products, like them, but I never had the feeling that they listen to customers. They decide what is good for them. If they decide that we'll never be able to clean our purchase history, there's no way that we'll be able to even if 1 million customers fill the feedback form.
Simply not true. But you've obviously made up your mind.
If all you're going to do is cry please go some place else. If you have an issue with an Apple product let them know through the feedback system. If you are not happy with the service Apple gives you then don't buy more Apple products. Simple.
I believe your last post was deleted, so here is a short response to it so you hopefully don't go off the wall again.
This is a forum for users to find solutions, not to cry all day about Apple doing nothing. If you read the thread you would see that I lodged feedback and am unhappy with this also. As I have posted on this topic I am alerted when someone else does, that is why I replied. The concensus was that there is no direct solution to this problem. Any solutions to the problem are welcome, so if you have one I would like to hear it, however, to save those looking for a solution and not just wanting to cry from having to scroll through 500 posts just to find there is no solution, maybe we should try to limit posts to solutions.
Thanks
This is now possible in iTunes 10.5. Here's how you do it:
1. Upgrade your version of iTunes to 10.5 (released October 11, 2011).
2. Click on iTunes Store in the lefthand column of iTunes and log in to your account.
3. Find "Purchased" in the Quick Links menu on the right hand side of the Store home page. Click on it.
4. You should see a list of your downloaded apps on the screen. Mouse over any app that you wish to delete. A small "x" in a round circle will appear in the top left corner of the app icon. Click the "x".
5. A notification will pop up telling you that your purchased app will now be hidden and how you can un-hide it in the future. Click OK. The app will disappear from your purchase history in iTunes and all associated iOS devices instantly. Verify this on your iOS device by navigating to your purchase history in the App Store.
Enjoy, and thanks Apple for listening to your customers!

"This really makes me grumpy, I want to know how to delete the purchase history as well. I deleted all those apps for a very specific reason, and don't want them showing up again. Apple needs to make a way to delete them permanantly."
Yes, that would be a great idea but I can see it now... "help! I deleted my purchase history and now I can't get that much-needed-now app back. Why do I have to buy it again? Why did Apple allow this? They should fix it so you can't delete your history in case you make a mistake."
At least you don't have to look at your purchase history daily.
