Logic Studio, Mac OS X (10.6.7)
I have never moved the application, or renamed it. I have been using macs since I had a quadra 950 and system 7; I understand the importance of folder/application locations. The version number behind the application was put there by the installer. It begs a broader question with regards to update policy: why didn't software update, which I run once a week, ever update logic?, why doesn't a native piece of sofware "just work" on it's host os? And why should I have to scrabble around on a forum to find out why? Logic pro would imply professionalism. The aformentioed questions would dictate not.
The version of Logic Pro with the version number behind it, is a backup. You must have deleted the newer version WITHOUT the version number, disabling the automatic update that way. Rename Logic Pro so it doesn't have the version number behind it and run Software Update again - it will work!
I aprecate your help blueberry I really do. However, I havent deleted anything, to my knowledge, that would have a baring on this issue. Indeed, before your reply; I have already deleted the version number and updated. Problem solved. Yet, questions posed in my previous post remain unawnsered.
Hey elfedmorris,
your situation and my situation are quite similar and when you go to this link:
http://store.apple.com/fr-business/product/MB798F/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5Mw&mco=MjE0NzI 4NDY
the 2nd choice let you think that you will have a compatible logic version for your new lion. there is no precision of any kind saying that you will upgrade from logic 9 to "logic for lion". There seem not to have any upgrade.
anyway, this is a big mess
and I can't use logic now!!
just to let blueberry know; I didn't move, remove or change anything before or after installing Lion.
all seems to be Apple responsibility on this one!!
Hope that all that will come to normal soon an quickly
that guy in Montpellier apple store, told me you should have downloaded the update to 9.1.4 before installing Lion.
does this meen something?????
realy weird no?
Acctually, I say it's 'problem sloved' logic is running very slowly. Crashing and hanging repeatedly. Honestly, this is a native program. Why is this happening?
I would like to help.
Without knowing what computer you are using I can say that
Logic Pro 9.0.2 was the Last version that supported PPC machines.
That begs the question "did you try to copy the program to an Intel machine
or, are you trying to upgrade a PPC machine?"
The Universal installer will install the code that matches the machine.
I hope this helps.
I don't have very much to add to the discussion except that I too am in the same position with logic 9.0.2 not working in the fashion described above. I am waiting for a fix here, and hoping it will come soon since this semester is about to start and I use logic...
Yes, Logic 9.0.2 won't work. But again: Please search this forum! The question has been answered many times: you either moved the Logic Pro application into a different folder or renamed it. The Software Update only works if there is an application named "Logic Pro" inside the Applications folder! No version number behind the filename, no subfolder.
That's world class software design right there, let me tell you. ROFL.
I will try, but I am positive I have changed nothing in terms of folders or names of files/icons... Thanks
Answered many times here: You don't have "Logic Pro" or "Logic Pro.app" in the Applications folder. You either moved it to a different folder, renamed it or deleted the original version after your last update, keeping a version with a version number appended to it. In all these cases Software Update won't find an update.
With over 10,000 views of this thread, I would contend; this is the place to find out whats going on with these issues. You're condisending copy and paste is becoming waring.
Also, native software should just work on the correct platform. This is not user error.
I repeat: THIS ISSUE IS NOT DOWN TO USER ERROR.
So I bought my macbook pro today, as well as logic studio 2.1 (Logic Pro 9.1.1) my mac has lion pre installed. I went to install logic, and it went smoothly until I went to open the actual program. As soon as I clicked on it, it said that i can't use this version of logic pro with this version of OSX. I'm confused as **** right now. Mainstage works, but Logic won't even start. I checked the app store, and it said i was up to date, and I checked the app folder and it doesn't have any weird numbers or anything. it looks just like AnaMusic said it should. any ideas?
