Will Logic Studio 9 work on OSX Lion?

When OSX Lion comes out, will Logic Studio 9 work on that OS?

Logic Studio, Mac OS X (10.6.7)

The answer is... drum roll, please... NO! Nothing works the way it should in Lion. I am apalled by Apple's lack of forethought with regard to this issue. Why should I have to ask everyone and thier mother how to get Logic to work in Lion? Beats me. Not only do I need a music software program like Logic to work, I also need to connect my mic to my new iMac. I have a M-Audio firewire recording interface and I can't connect it to my desktop because the driver is not compatible with this new OS. I went to the Apple store and no one could solve my problem. I went to Guitar Center, spoke with a guy who used to be a tech at M-Audio, and he informed me my best bet was to uninstall Lion. I've been using Apple products since 1982, and this new OS is really giving me a headache. I feel like I'm back in the dark ages of the early mid 1990s.

As long as you install the Logic updates properly (as described on the previous pages of this thread), it works just fine on Lion.

I've got it running great on my 2011 MacBook Air (11") -- I use an Avid MBOX 3.

I have an M-Audio FireWire Solo also, but I can't use it since there's no firewire port on the air, so it's on my Windows box and I use it with ProTools 9.

Just out of curiosity, how is it Apple's fault that M-Audio didn't update their drivers for one of their products?

That's like blaming microsoft because netgear has a particular USB wifi stick that only has drivers for windows XP and not windows 7.

Newsflash -- M-Audio *****...they outsource all of their programming stuff...It's all done in india, and they are super slow to provide driver and software updates, especially when new OS's come out. I've been an owner of the FireWire Solo for about 5 years now, and even the jump from vista to windows 7 was a nightmare...Their Win 7 drivers for the FW solo to this day still have bugs, and the last time they were updated was in November of 2009. I've posted on their forums with BSOD \ memory dumps proving their driver has problems and they still haven't updated it., and they most likely never will because it's an older product.

Your best bet is to sign up for the M-audio support forums and see if there are any beta drivers available for your particular product. Despite their lack of updates and ****-poor software team in sunny Bangalore, the mods and pros on the M-Audio forums are mostly from the USA and are pretty good at helping people out. Someone else might have even posted some kinda hack \ trick to get it to work in Lion.

EDIT:

For the record, I do think it ***** that Apple (1) hasn't updated Logic to take advantage of some of the new features in Lion and (2) that they force you to run Lion on all new macs that have been purchased after it came out.

When I first got my air and I found out protools 9 wouldn't run, I was mad as ****..It took Avid about 8 weeks and then they finally released a beta version...but that's understandable. They explained on their forums why they can't have their software ready since Apple makes so many changes to the OS at whim, and they have so much hardware under their brands that they sell and it ALL has to be qualified and tested to work without any bugs.

I guess even the update from 10.6.7 to 10.6.8 broke ProTools and some of the hardware \ digidesign drivers, and the reason was because it was all bugs that apple had created ^_^ And of course, I was mad as **** when I found out that I could not run snow leopard on the air either...oh well, live and learn 🙂
