Can you remove apps from purchased list?

I understand the dilemma. I am merely playing devil's advocate. IF - and I stress IF - they are tied together - I'm not sure how they can implement on the one end without screwing it up on the other end - That is all I'm suggesting. I am not necessarily defending Apple here but I'm thinking about the business and accounting side on this issue.

All I can offer is that you express your wishes to Apple through this venue. We can moan and complain on this site all we want, but Apple does not contribute here and they only moderate for abusive behavior. Give this is a shot.

I would like to remove the purchased list from my phone. It is not needed and was only receintly added. If that is not possible, then Apple should allow us to hide the apps we dont want anymore. The entire purchas "cloud" is not needed.

Team, I'm with you. I definitely want to be able to delete these apps too. I mean, my god, if my wife got hold of it and discovered my since deleted "Control PE" application (I didn't need it... honest...) or 365 Days of KarmaSutra, I'm not sure what she'd say... (who knows, could spark things up a bit but I don't want to roll the dice on that one.)

Back office system or no Demo, this feature needs a little flexibility. Like a "please don't show again" flag...

But they should introduce a 'hide' feature so that the items will still be in the purchased list, but will not be displayed for downloading or reinstalling for the end user.

This way Apple have a complete purchase list and the end user can hide all the applications that they will never use again.

Just a suggestion… Lets see if anyone at Apple is listening...

It's as simple as this:

1) With computers, we use a Browser to interact with the Internet.

2) With devices, we use Apps for the most common interactions with the Internet.

3) With browsers, we have a "CLEAR HISTORY" feature, and it's there for good reason.

4) With devices, we have just been given a "HISTORY" list of all our Apps from the beginnining of time, but WITHOUT the "CLEAR HISTORY" feature.

But it's even worse, of course, wiothn App Histiory, since for it's not shared across one device, but ALL devices using that Apple ID. So devices gifted to remote familiy members for example (college student children, grandparents, young children, spouses, etc) ALL see what each other's "App Histiory".

This absolutely needs to be addressed by Apple. Some history needs to remain in the past.

And think back. No, think WAY back....have you EVER, even ONCE, downloaded an App you wouldn't want younr ENTIRE FAMILY to know you downloaded? In the last FIVE YEARS? Think carefully now. Remember that one evening back 4 years ago before you were married?

Does this make sense to anyone?

Yeah, makes sense, they need to sort it out.

I don't understand the big fuss, if for some reason you don't want anyone else seeing what you purchase make them use a seperate account!

OK. I feel the need to explain myself one more time with one little caveat. I still believe in "theory" that Apple just can't remove items from our purchased history for the obvious accounting reasons that I mentioned. It's just not practical - IMHO - for them to do that.

HOWEVER, in "practice", after reading so many of these posts on several threads going on about this issue currently, I understand everybody's concerns with this and I TOO wish there was a way to "hide" the purchases on the device in some fashion.

When I posted originally, I had no idea that these items were showing up in the App Store on the iPad. I infrequently buy apps and when I went to update a couple of my very few apps yesterday, I finally saw what everyone was talking about. My original - and mistaken thinking - was that this was showing up in iTunes Accounts on computers. I now stand corrected.

This is not a big issue for me since I am the ONLY person in my house with access to my iPad. I truly use it as it was intended to be used, a single user device that acts as an extension of your computer. I don't have many apps on mine - about 60 or so - but I do share my iTunes account with my wife and daughter - for their iPods, my iPod and my iPad. There is nothing in my purchase history that would potentially embarrass me - at least for now anyway, so like I said, this is not a big issue for me.

After reading many of the other posts regarding this issue, I DO understand why it is so important to many users to have the ability to "hide" past purchases .

It's too late. The purchase histiory is out there for US accounts now.

With new ID's you have to start your purchase history over from scratch, meaning you have to buy the 200 out of 700 apps you actually want AGAIN (probably $200-$500).

And for remote relatives with devices on the family Apple ID, you don't have access to the device. So yu have to come up with an explanation as to WHY you are shutting down their device App access and creating new one. For EVERY relative.

It's a simple fix: allow the permanent removal of history records. They are OUR records, after all. If it means I would hacve to repurchase the crap apps I've had and deleted again if I wanted to install them, so what?

Just don't ever have kids, or a spouse with an Apple device and you'll be fine.

Oh, and be sure NEVER, EVER to download something questionable in the future either, since it's engraved in stone for all time, for all your family and extended family to see.

By the way, go ahead and check on your spouses' purchases before they read this post...might as well take advantage, right?

Another option could be if you want to for some reason hide your history from your family, instead of them getting a new one each, just get another one yourself.

To uninstall an application purchased or otherwise installed from the iPhone AppStore, simply do the following:

1) hold your finger on either the icon for the application you wish to uninstall or any other icon until the icons on your home screen begin to shake or wiggle (the same action you take to move or re-arrange home screen icons)
2) click the "x" in the upper left hand corner of the icon for the application you wish to remove
3) delete the application from your iTunes applications tab

Uninstalling leaves it in your Purchase History for all time.

There is a MAJOR privacy issue here as well. All of my interactions with iTunes require that I enter my Apple ID and password, EXCEPT if someone wants to check my purchase history.

All they need to do is go into the App Store on my iPhone or iPad, and look under 'Updates' ... my purchase history is right there to view, for anyone using my Apple device. The only control I have is to log out of the iTunes Store every time. That's a major inconvenience for a feature that I don't want, and didn't ask for.

... and it looks like a LOT of people have this concern as well.

It's kinda like having an ATM card, and needing to enter your PIN for everything EXCEPT your entire historical financial information... and making that information available to anyone else who uses that ATM. Unless, of course, you call up the bank and ask them not to divulge that information... a process that would need to be repeated EVERY time you made a purchase with your debit card.

Would YOU want that?
