Cannot activate iMessage

Whenever I try to sign in to iMessage using my Apple ID, it says "Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." The problem, is that I'm connected to my wifi network and have 3 bars. Please help!

iPod touch, Other OS, iOS 5.0

The Date and Time thing was the answer!🙂🙂 Although it appeared alright, when I checked...It was not. "fdm1979" was correct. Make sure your Time & Date are set to Automatic. Neither iMessage or Facetime were working! It was on the wife's iPhone and I'm assuming this all happened after she did an update!
