delete items from purchase history

Your purchase history is tied to your AppleID (the name or email address you use to make purchases through the App Store / iTunes Store). It cannot be changed by you (the user). You could stop using your current AppleID and use a different one, but then you would have to keep track of two different IDs when making purchases etc.

You can contact the iTunes Store email team and ask them about removing items but as it's your official history of purchases I doubt there is a way to remove it from their end either: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/

This feature is still in Beta until iOS 5 comes out in Fall/September, so everything is subject to change.

If there are items in your purchase/download history that you don't want other people to see then logging out of the account (Settings > Store) removes the purchase history from being accessible without needing to jailbreak the device , and you can prevent new purchases/downloads by setting a passcode lock on Settings > General > Restrictions and setting Installing Apps 'off'. Similarly you can hide purchase history on a computer by logging out of your account on the Store screen in iTunes (just tap on your account id on the top right and 'sign out')

In the meantime you can hide purchases to make them less visible : hiding and unhiding

I second this request, and will do my best to add my opinion to EVERY post about being able to permanently and totally delete objects from my purchase history.

Crappy free apps that I will NEVER reinstall on any device.

Time-bombed paid apps that I will NEVER reinstall on any device - like all older versions of MLB.com at Bat.

How about it apple? Give me control of my devices and my purchases!

I also would like to add my voice to this, calling for a way to delete items from purchase history. I have over SEVEN HUNDRED apps that I have downloaded since purchasing my first iphone. I don't want to have to wade through those every time I'm looking at my purchase history. I only use about 40 or less of the apps that I've downloaded over the years.

The same goes with music.

It's ridiculous not to have a way to delete unwanted items from purchase history, if for no other reason than privacy concerns.

PLEASE, if you agree with us, please do add your comments here and elsewhere. Make Apple aware that this is an issue we expect to be addressed.

I also think there should be a way for USERS to control and handle THEIR OWN app purchase. In the end it is our freedom to delete any apps that we dont need from our phone, or device, then y not on the purchase list? Apple should add this "feature" or "function" what ever they want to call it

100% agree. Stupid free apps that i downloaded but are useless, shouldn't be left on my history to clog it up for eternity...I will never use that app again.

I should be aloud to permanently remove apps/music/books from my account history that i will never want to download again.

You can always logout of the Stores through the Settings app when you want let others use your device. Log back in when you want to start purchasing items again. The purchase history should not be available unless you are logged in.

Not acceptable. Like location-gate, anyone who obtains access to my device can see my app download history without encryption or password protection.

Might I add that this was not an option we could choose to have on our devices, it magically appeared, without concent. Very poor practices indeed.

I agree I don't want something that doesn't give me privacy. I don't want my app history on display. I wish there was a way to delete purchase history. If they can't get rid of the ones we purchased at least let us get rid of the free ones. It's not fair to be stuck with something that wasn't an option to have in the first place. icloud is dumb. At least until they find a way to be more private. The best thing people can do is complain to itunes.Go directly to the source and complain. Theres a complaint option on this site. Complain away.

100% agreed. Ridiculous feature. Feedback submitted. And since when has beta-participation been mandatory, instant, fully automatic and irreversible?!

In the light of phones being searched and seized by officials in many countries, having any kind of history so freely accessible is downright irresponsible.

The Purchase History option was available in the iBooks app well before the iCloud announcement. If the feature was not already in other stores, it apparently is being rolled out now.

It probably is irresponsible for purchase history information to be freely accessible. iPods and iOS devices are personal devices. The user has to be logged into the iTunes Stores in order to access the purchase history. If a user is logged out of the iTunes Stores, Apple will not make it difficult to log back in if the user wants to purchase or update apps and other media.
