How do I change the length of titles added to clips in iMovie on iPad?

Split the clip at the point you want the title to stop. A downward stroke gesture will split it there, and leave it without a transition.
Double tap your clip > title settings > tap on the title and you should be able to edit it from there.
Thank you for the response, but that is just for editing the title style, location tagging and volume level. It doesn't let you change the length the title stays on-screen. Currently, the title just stays up for the entire 4-minute clip.
You don't see: opening, middle, ending?
Yeah, but I thought that was just the style...? Am I wrong?
I was just messing with mine and it does the same thing.. weird I thought it only displayed for a few seconds depending where you placed. No, I am wrong..
Dangit... I was actually hoping I was wrong! lol
I'd like to find a way to do this. After using iMovie (just got my iPad 4 days ago) and ReelDirector, I can say iMovie needs some serious updating to be any kind of feasible video editor / authoring solution.

So if I understand correctly, to change the duration of a text you must split the clip to the required text duration ? That cannot be true, can it ? I mean, a clip is a clip and a text is a text. Those are two totally different things. Is there no neat way of doing this ?
There's no problem with splitting the clip, the end result is the same (you won't notice the split when watching the whole video) and it's incredibly easy to do.
