Does facetime work on iPad without 3G

Hi,

I want to buy iPad 2 but without 3G. Would facetime work for that? Since I cannot connect to the mobile service provider.

Thanks!

Thanks Oliver and Craig,

This is strange... I am using iPhone 4 and when I facetime, I must choose the number that I need to call. Does it mean that the voice is over mobile (3G) network and facetime video is over Wifi?

So that's why I am thinking if the iPad 2 doesn't have 3G, how to "call" another number int he first place.

I might need a little more help 🙂

You select the phone number simply as the id of the device you wish to FaceTime. When FaceTime was first released it only worked on the iPhone 4. It seemed logical at the time to use the phone number as the id. Now that you can FaceTime with the newer iPods and the iPad2, which do not have phone numbers, they went to email addresses to id the device. For example if you wanted to FaceTime me at my phone, because you know I always have that with me, you would select my phone number from your contacts. If you were sure I had my iPad, you would choose my email address.
